20 odd years ago as a young mum I moved into a smallish village and started a monthly craft group. We met in the village hall and ran informal workshops in our best craft for each other. After 6 months our numbers had swelled to 40 + and we were hiring in spe******ts to run workshops.
When I moved, a long time ago now, life was very busy and even though I had intended to start a group up again, it never happened. Lately I've been to a couple of groups but they tend to be card making people and the joy of my first craft group was in the diversity of crafts. It gives everyone the chance to have a go at a new craft without having to pay out for a 6 week course and find they dont like it.
Do you think that this is still a good idea? Is it worth me trying to start one up here? Is there anyone else in my area that might be interested?

Sounds like a good idea.
I'm interested in beading/jewellery, what sorts of things do you do?
Whereabouts are you near to? I'm near Bridgnorth/Stourbridge.

Hi Petal
I'm just outside Ludlow.
I'm a bit of a butterfly when it comes to crafts! Over the years I have made, taught and sold, hand mixed pot pourri, candles, patchwork quilts (in Harrods, my finest crafting hour!), cushions, applique pictures, rag dolls, silk painting, rag rugs (3 different types) and of course cards using all of the methods above.
I've written a letter to be included in our parish newsletter, I'll let you know if there is any response. I don't see why a Ludlow venue wouldn't work, I can think of at least two relatively inexpensive rooms to hire. Could you get to Ludlow easily enough?

Hiya,
Ludlow is an hour away from me, but is my favourite place, although we live in Staffordshire, we spend most of our time in Shropshire. My interests are beading and lately, working with silver, but I'm a total novice, so need to go on a proper course for that. I'd love to learn some stitchs like herringbone spirals and others, so it would be great to be involved. I work from home ATM. I would have thought that there would be lots of takers in Ludlow, as there's tons of craft people around there. Have you looked at the Creative Breaks website, they have lots of crafts listed and the courses they run. You can then put location and find out how many are listed near to Ludlow and who might be interested in coming alone.
I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Hi,
I thought you might like to know we are holding a Bead sale in Little hereford Village Hall SY8 4LL on 31st Jan 2010 open from 10.30 - 3.30. Little Hereford is just a couple of miles off the A49 south of Ludlow. We sell all kinds of beads ( for embroidery, jewellery making etc) and admission is free. Fingers crossed no more snow on that day !

Have just stumbled on your post. I work at a charity in Leominster and during the week we support adults with learning disabilities in various craft activities. I am considering running some craft sessions on a Saturday morning or in the evenings as we have a great space to work in. Anyone interested?
Also we are in need of some volunteer craft outworkers to help us complete projects and assist with quality control. Please do get in touch if you would like to be involved or have any questions.
regards, Lisa
