Hey guys!
I'm new to the forum and have introduced myself in the introduction thread. I now thought it would be a good idea to ask a few things in the Photography forum :)
I have, over the past year or so, been trying to set up my own photography business. I got shown this forum by Annie the Pedlar (anyone know her?!). Who, amongst other things, does the Kentwell Re-enactment along with myself each year.
I am currently looking for some work to help tide me over, as i plan to be setting up a photography studio and art gallery in the near future. As of the moment, the work i do have isn't enough to do this.
I'm looking for any jobs in the London area, or possibly futhur afield depending on the job.
As i said before i am a re-enactor, so any re-enactment related photography work would be great. I have already done work with the Lion's Part and the Company of St. Joseph, both of whom were very pleased with the results.
Also if anyone knows of anyone in the London area who runs a studio and wouldn't mind having some extra help around, then please let me know as i am also looking for some work experience in a studio. The same goes for Art Galleries :P
Anyway, hope to hear from you guys soon! please feel free to email me on:

Much love

ps. For those of you of a Kentwell Pursuasion, this is Jenyfer of the Mil Pil :)

Can't help with any photography jobs I'm afraid but just wondered if you've been sending out speculative letters to places?
With the re-inactment side of things it could be worth drawing up a CV/portfolio and sending it to any place that does re-inactment or historical events (thinking locally there's West Stow, Mountfitchet Castle and Hedingham Castle so there must be hundreds across the country). Some may already have a photgrapher but others may see this as an additional service they could offer - so in your covering letter sell the idea and how it would benefit them too. If you do this mention in the letter you'll phone to discuss it further and then make sure you do follow it up in the timescale given...it gives you the chance to re-jog their memory and to talk them round if they do show even an ounce of interest :)
You may of course have already done all this in which case I'll shut up ;)
Good luck - there's nothing better than doing a job you have a real passion for.

Best of luck! I only do photography as a 5-9 job - the professionals I've assessed for NVQs all tell me it's really tough :(
The Sealed Knot do a lot of stuff this way (Edgehill etc), and Blenheim Palace does jousting tournaments several times a year (PM me if you want more details). Will look out for more for you.
Cheers

Cool, my advice would be...
* Get your CV up to date, make sure you're really selling yourself and it's geared towards the reinactment stuff (if that's what you really want to do).
* Spend a week or two drawing up a list of all the places that might be suitable to contact - see if you can get a really long list.
* After xmas blitz them all with an email and attached CV and follow them up a week later.
Sorry if I'm being bossy but it used to be my job...and I used to work advising students in a 6th form with art special-ism so know these creative positions are so rarely advertised and how you have to go out and really look for them :)

Check out the Photo Agencies, if you get some work in there it can be picked up (and paid for) time after time.
Some blessed type from one such "borrowed" a photograph of mine to illustrate a short news article in the Times, and upon being challenged sent me a £100 - and he must have got more than that!
And although it might not appeal, Weddings is the bread and butter for lots of photographers - rip-off prices are charged by many for third rate work.
Get yourself cosied up to anywhere (good or bad) that does "Medieval" Banquets and offer an additional service to their clients.
Best wishes
David
