How many of you use kits? I'm just planning my next quilling project. I haven't done a kit in it for a while as I like the challenge of creating my own piece of work. Currently planning a world map to quill.

That sounds like a challenge!! You will have to post pictures when it is done - roughly how big is it going to be? Are quilling kit's good? I've never done quilling before although I like the look of it.
I've used card kits before but as you say I like creating my own designs rather than just relying on the bits in the kit.

Wow a quilled world map, now that is a challenge..and one I would love to see when it's finished too! I have never tried quilling as I have a problem with my right hand which makes anything a bit fiddley difficult. I do like seeing the results though.
I have never used crafting kits as, like you say, I like to create my own designs but I think they definitely have a place in the crafting world as they are great for getting started out in card making etc. I was lucky, my Mom was a big card maker before I got interested so I was able to get advice etc from her before getting started. I also got to steal her stash as well which was helpful in the beginning. I pay her back now though because whenever I release a new product she gets it first so she can try to break it or find fault! It's very helpful having a crafting Mom!

I haven't decided if the map will be 30x40cm or 40x50cm.... I'm still trying to decide on that now I've finally found an antique style map I like the look of. I usually have a break over Christmas as I have to put it all away so now I can get it all out again and start a new project. It will probably take a few months to complete I reckon.

You can get some good quilling kits, but if you wanted to start I'd probably get "Twirled Paper" book which has paper tool and glue and all you'd need then is the card stock to putyour design on.

But never bother now I've built up my confidence. Having said that the only sewing kits I used were counted cross stitch, and I could never stick to the original design, I'm always changing or tweaking them. I found that the satifaction went out of x stitch very quickly for me, I was better making my own items, all of which are individual, no two are alike.

I have no shortage of ideas in my head that I want to do, as with the scrapbook bags, but I have pushed aside 15 kiddies aprons that need pockets & matching appliques, and 15 bookbags ditto. But now I've satisfied myself, I've made one, I can get back to finishing the other articles. After the kiddies pinnies & bookbags, I have adult aprons to do. And then bunnies, which are all cut out, just need assembling and clothes made for them.......not too much to do then!

Truth be told, I really should plan my time out and stick to the plan - yeah, right, like that's ever going to happen. Too much of a butterfly brain, me.....
