Don't know about padding, I don't quilt, but I use a lot of sheeting! I buy sheets from jumble sales, car boots and charity shops and cut them up. Nothing like buying a double size 100% cotton sheet for 20p!!;)

Mr Woofin has the widest variety of types of cotton fabric I have ever seen. www.wolfintextiles.co.uk (http://www.wolfintextiles.co.uk)

The padding you need for quilts is called wadding or batting and is available all over the net. I have just bought some from ebay for my coats 2m 100% cotton wadding including shipping was £11.00

Dunelm Mill do wadding at reasonable prices & you can buy it in fractions of a metre too eg 1.2m so you don't have much waste. The usual weights come in ounces eg 2oz,4oz etc

They also do sheeting by the metre in lots of nice colours, or you can buy a single/double sheet at a reasonable price too & cut it up to suit.

Beware very cheap sheeting though as it may be too thin & see-through for your needs - this applies from wherever you get it from, look at the thread count, the higher the thread count the better quality the sheeting. Even M&S now have really reasonable sheets which are still very good quality.

Are these to sell to others?

I'd recommend using only 100% cotton sheets and fillings (wadding/ batting) for babies as the polyester fillings do not "breathe" well.

As an aside, I don't know much about safety regs n stuff, but I noticed that all my fabrics are supplied with a caveat saying that they have not been treated and therefore should not be used as children's sleepwear. I don't know if this applies to quilts/ coverings too though.

I've made quilts for my little ones with them though.

Happy Sewing!
