Hi,

I have to repair a ceramic piece of mine. A bit glaze stucked on the bottem and dameged them. Now I want to put some clay on the bottem. Would it be enough to have a bisque firing or is it better I make the glaze firing again? What would happen with the glaze if I make a new firing under the glaze temperatur? I never tried this...

many thanks...

Hi Barbara Its never easy to add onto ceramics once its fired. I have repaired bisque cracks with paper clay, I have "glued" bits togtehr with glaze and refired (tricky).

I don't think it's possible to repair a finished piece with raw clay as it will just fall off as it dries. Even if it stayed on, it would shrink during the firing and be useless.

Can you file off the offending bit of glaze (a tile trimming file would probably be the best).

Otherwise could you just sell it as a second. If you're not careful you can spend an awful long time (and firing expense) trying to correct something that will never be perfect anyway.

thanks for the replies. Sometimes I have to question me, where is my brain. Of course it is useless to put clay on the bottom how should it stick on them. I think I leave it like it is and keep it for my son. He wants it anyway. Every day he starts a discussion about this boat because he need it for his bath. Now he can ruin the bath with it... It's just a shame it was proper work for two days... But I'll never be happy and he loves it.

There you go then - 2 days' work but more joy and happiness to you and your son than if you had sold it to a stranger x
