A good general rule is to look at feedback - it doesn't have to be 100% but consistency is good. People who are pleased with their items tend to show it in the feedback they leave and if they are not happy then they show it too! It would also come up in feedback if the item described by the seller wasn't accurate so you should be able to spot who is reliable.
Hope this helps and good luck in finding what you are looking for.

I'd agree with swirly that checking feedback before you buy is good indicator. I've had a few sterling silver bargins from ebay.

If your looking for proper companies, I've found Palmer Metals very reasonable for jumprings, bails etc and PJ Minerals are also quite reasonable.

I have trusted ebay from long time and you are really secure as eBay team blacklist people selling incorrect/cheat items.
