Got hold of some spirit dye testers today and had a go at colouring wood for the first time. Not perfect by any means but the overall effect is very promising. This one is using purple and blue dyes.

Looks like a good way to colour wood without losing sight of the grain. This is sycamore, normally a bland white wood and is 7" tall & 4 1/2" max dia.

I really like the colours and the way you've been sympathetic to the grain of the wood. Makes a nice change and would be very eye-catching to have a few pieces like this on a stall.

I love the look of bare natural wood and was surprised that I like the coloured ones as much as I do but actually it adds another element to the items I think cos its been done so well. Really nice!

That is so beautiful and I think it enhances the wood too. Hope you do some more coloured projects:D

I love that. The colours are beautiful with the grain coming through.
I just googled sycamore and they are very pale and rather dull aren't they, You wouldn't think it was the same wood. I'm sure they will be popular.

Potential for some great effects there, and a great enhancement for the "less interestingly patterned" woods.
