Hi,
I've just posted this query in the craft fairs section and realise that this section is probably a better bet.
Can anyone give me some info about selling food (or allowing food to be sold) at craft fairs.
We've had an application from a lady who wants a stall at our craft fair in November selling Christmas cakes. She is not a registered business but does this for charity. Are there any regulations about this?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Kate

I would say that she would have to have her basic hygiene certificate and that she would have to comply with TS and have full insurance.

I think (?) the local EHO needs to be informed if selling food to the public

hth, but someone with more experience may come along?

Hi Kate,

Jane is right, she will have to be registered with her local Evironmental Health people as a food business. I think there is something about exemption for producing on a part time basis for charity but she needs to check this out with the council, cos I'm not sure where I heard that!

And definately needs insurance!!!

Check with the council. Obvious issues of health / hygiene / and possibly public liability insurance incase anyone contracts food poisoning. As much as I hate the Health and Safety world we live in, it seems to be here to stay.
