Rubbish shop bought card!!

I went into town to do soemthing for work yesterday, realised I was going to a friends birthday doo the next day and i needed a card(didnt have goodies to make one)so I popped into a well know high street stationery shop and got a card.
I was in the queue, got £2 out ready thinking it wouldnt cost more than that,'£2.70 please' says the cashier!!!!

Ive just opened it up and the unner insert bit is folded up on itself, looking awful and has completly come away from the card on one side!!
It loiks awful!!
I dont think Ive got double sided tape to make it any better(actually, just thought I may have some glue dots, il have to search for them!!)

Just seen ont the back it says 'hand finished' they didnt do a very good job!

Anyhoo, Im just really miffed, it cost a fortune and its naff!!

Before I started making cards I always used to buy my cards from M&S and places like that..paying upwards of £3.00 a time but.. I thought 'well they are hand finished so they are worth it.' Now I realise that hand finished just means that someone stuck a flower on a pre printed card..badly usually with a load of glue, and thats it. Unfortunately people who buy 'hand made cards' think that because you have made it ..it isn't worth as much as some rubbish from a shop! That why it's so hard to get a decent price for cards you've made and shops selling naff cards, like the one you had the misfortune to buy, can charge the earth! Rant over! :mad:

I managed to find my glue dots and sorted out the card as best I could.

I hate shop bought cards. I can't believe how much money they want for them these days. The simplest most boring small card can cost upward of £2.50. I hate paying more than £1.70 for a card from the shops, and now have a good stock of cards that I can use for most occassions... mostly made with my quilling.

It's so much more satisfying and everyone who recieves them appreciates it a lot more. Maybe you should keep a good stock at home in case you do get caught short!

Indri, I used to make all the cards for my family and his. But I gave up spending hours getting the cards absolutely perfick for my in-laws. There is only so many times I can bear to hear

'Oh, love, couldn't you afford to buy one?'

They said the same thing one Christmas when I made Foodie hampers for everyone. This entailed months of cooking, buying special jars & bottles and the hampers, which I lined with pretty fabrics. Each hamper ended up costing about £90 and all my Mother in law could say was 'Never mind, you can buy us something nice next year...'

Oh no!!! How hurtful is that? My mother in law looked petrified when I told her I wanted all her old plastic bottles to make jewellery with - I think she thinks she is going to get a necklace with a shampoo bottle as a pendant!!

I love thoughtful gifts! My sister arrived back in the UK on Christmas eve after traveling and we weren't expecting any presents. I collect tacky postcards and they go on the walls in my downstairs loo - anyway my sis had collected loads of these from each place she had visited - I was over the moon!! She'd also bought me an origami book that came from a library sale but again I was thrilled!!
It's my birthday on Tuesday and from the feel of my presents (naughty I know) I think she made have crotched something for me!! Can't wait!

My mother in law never engages her brain before letting her verbal ramblings loose...after 24 years I've got her sussed. I have to say, half the time she doesn't actually realise exactly what she's said. Dozey moo...

Last Christmas, after hearing her say to a friend that life was far too short to footle about making fresh pasta, and there's nothing wrong with Heinz tinned spaghetti, I bought her a pasta maker. My father in law got back the M&S argyll socks they gave to our 21 yr old son the year before last!

It's taken me a long time, but I'm fighting back! Funny though, my own parents have lived in Cyprus for the past 11 years and we see more of them than we do of the outlaws, who live a mile away!
