I've just changed the algo that works out your rep.

The green bars are getting long now so I need to up the stacks :D

I hardly ever notice it (mine or anyone else's).

I don't think people ought to comment or post for the purpose of upping rep power - it sort of invalidates the comment, the posts and the "power" IYSWIM

I dont - I stick to my principles :o

I don't say "oooh nice" for the sake of it.. though I have posted where someone has made something I particularly admire or appreciate.;)

I post:
Where I think I have a valid comment to make about something the OP invites input to..

Things that interest me, or may be genuinely of use to others..

I use my rep allowance to:
"agree" with things other folk have written without repeating their comment.
Add my support to a point of view

And occasionally as an aside, where the purpose of the rep would take something off topic if posted..

I don't think people generally post "for the purpose of upping rep power" - I certainly don't though you might misconstrue it from my earlier post.

Some weeks ago I noticed that some folk had a low ratio of rep to posts, whereas some mostly newbie members had a high ratio - myself included.

As the workings of rep power/poins is as clear as mud I was merely curious how and why - I since discovered that "who" gives rep governs how much you get explaining why someone with less than 100 posts could have more rep than posts..

Under Mr M's previous calculation my rep number exceeded the number of posts a few weeks ago - a milestone of sorts, but not important to me or anyone else:confused:

My comment earlier was just a lighthearted one about the new calculation changing the ratio - not a sense of loss !! :mf::mf::mf:

I think that a lot of folk do "notice" it, in the sam way they notice how many posts they make - after all, you have to make sure you have 25 to post a link when you join, so a level of awareness is instilled from day one.

A lot of folk here also have websites, blogs and Twitters (I dont before you ask!), and given the "attention to detail" necessary for optimising your sites/posts and the like as part of the ongoing struggle to drive traffic and again, it raises awareness of all aspects of forums/sites etc..

I dont think being aware is a bad thing.. just a fact of life for some folk and not others?

I'm still not happy with the maths of the algo for the rep scoring so it may be moving around again...

Please note if you rep power has gone down then so has everyone elses in line with the maths..

Factors include magic dust;) , sign up age, post count, post per month, time spent on the site and rep given from others.

Its all a bit of a balance but just trying to make if more level and expandable.

phew what a relief, I just noticed mine had gone down and couldnt work out why, I just pm'd a mod too, to ask if I had been bad repped and how I could find out.

Got a bit worried that I had inadvertently upset someone without knowing it!!!!

I imagine many members will be upset when they notice, until/if they read this post.
