View Full Version : Glass Jars
Hi All
New to the forum and wanted to say Hi.
Also, I'm thinking about starting to make some candles and would really like to make container candles in Apothecary style jars. After trawling through sites, I've found that UK sites are a lot more expensive that US sites which is rather dissapointing as I think shipping glass might be tricky.
Could someone reccomend a site/shop that sells them at a reasonable price.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
(welcome)(welcome)(welcome)
Pleased to meet you.
What size and what sort of quantity are you looking for?
Jane
A range of sizes and just a few of them to begin with... if they turn out okay will want to get some more. Also ideally want the ones with the flat lids.

Hi Judi and (welcome).
You will find that as usual, we pay through the nose for most things here in the UK and Apothecary jars are no exception.
They may be cheaper in the US but add to that the poor exchange rate, import duty, VAT, shipping charges, brokerage charges and soon it works out almost the same as buying them over here. Plus there's the chance of breakages during transit. Sorry, sounds like I'm being negative, but seriously, I'm not. Most people just don't take the above points into consideration when buying from the US.
I get some of my candlemaking supplies from the US but I wouldn't buy glassware, even though I have been sorely tempted.
Don't forget though that the cost of your container will be factored in your final retail cost. Have you tried colouredbottles?
Good luck with your candle making. Don't forget to post some pics.

I love Apothecary jars, but import duty is a killer.
