Anyone tried an Actifry?

I keep hearing all these good reports about the Tefal Actifry, and I'm really tempted to buy one. Especially as I'm on a constant diet!

But they're SO expensive that I'm wary of spending so much - has anyone here tried one?

Isnt it the one that was on Watchdog though and kept catching fire?;)

I have no clue if they catch fire, I confess.

A friend of mine has one them and says they're great for chips, roast potaties, meat, etc. They say stuff comes out crisply and beautifully cooked, with virtually no oil... bu I was hoping for another opinion or two!

My dad has a dry frying pan and I know that makes nice chips. Modern version looks like this

Being a canny Yorkshire lass I would save my money and use the grill - as for roast spuds just use tiny bit of oil to coat each one and bang em in the oven..same for potato wedges :D

Reality check here.. there's a difference between a diet and healthy eating! If you are always on the former, you aren't doing it right! and if you are on the latter, you don't need an actifry!

Now if Tefal made willpower.... :p:p:p

Hehehe... well, I lost four and a half stone last year, so I can't be doing TOO badly on the dieting! But I still have a way to go yet...

But the reason this soudns good is that I do still cook for my beloved, and he loves chips & roast potatoes,. And I loathe & despise my deep-fat-fryer - it's so messy and wasteful. As I understand it, the idea of this machine is that it gets a crispy, crunchy and properly-cooked result without tons of oil, and that soudns like a most useful thing to me.

Well, we'll see... maybe if I find one cheap somewhere!

I have to say that THEY ARE FANTASTIC, and worth every penny!!!

My mum has one (Sue). And uses it for mainly chips and roast spuds. You use the measuring spoon that comes with it for the amount of oil you need, it's not that much at all and you can use which ever oil you want, mum uses olive oil.

You can get roughly 3 adults worth of chips / roast spuds out of 1 pan, so the oil does go along way.

It keeps moving the spuds all the way through cooking and takes about 30-40 minutes.

Really easy to clean too, which always helps as you are only washing the non-stick pan.

It has 5 out of 5 from me and my mum :D :D :D
