Not sure if this is the right place to put this but I need some help!
I am trying to organise public liability insurance and the broker I have contacted is having real problems as none of the insurance companies seem to be set up for craft businesses. Are there any businesses out there that have got insurance? Where did you go? All I have had so far is a quote that is just stupidly high for the cover I want. I only need cover for £1million.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did a quick search on google and got these guys
http://www.decision-finance.co.uk/business_insurance_quotes.html?business-category=aarv5900190&form-intro-next=Next
might be worth a try?
I am with the NMTF (National Market Trader Federation) - a lot of crafters use them but there are a few others for sure. I think it has been discussed in the Craft Fair forum so you may want to try and do a search in the forum.

Yes I pay £46 per year for £5,000,000 public liability insurance for my craft stall for markets and craft fairs. The company is C.M.T.I.A. Combined market traders insurance association. I am at work at the moment so don't have their contact details try searching on google. Otherwise contact your local town Market office as they will have details of insurance providers. Forget the Brokers.

Thanks everyone!
I did find insurance last year when I asked this question but to tell you the truth I was done! So as it will be coming around again pretty soon I will be trying everyone you suggested.

I used the combined market traders insurance group .
I think it cost me £46 with a £1.50 fee to do it over the phone, which was great as I was covered straight away.
This was just for public liabilty insurance and was the best price I found

Hello,
I am also looking for business insurance. If you make and sell any products you need both public and product liability insurance. I have phoned round all the big companies who are very happy to take your money. But if you say..yes I manufacture the products myself to sell on, then they don't want to know.
I am a bit confused. Product lilabilty insurance is taken out for that reason. But if you are looking for the insurance yourself, they will not insure anyone that phisically makes the products themselfs.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I think its crazy. So still phoning lots of companies.

I got mine from Manor Insurance (they are a brokers). It's a homeworkers insurance policy and has public and product liability. It costs a bit more than the prices quoted here but covers me for all my handicrafts (I do jewellery making, felting, sewing, knitting, spinning, card making and more!). It covers my internet sales and 50 craft fairs per year as well as providing legal cover, cover for all my stock at home, my business machines (sewing machine, overlocker, computer, etc.), stock in transit to craft fairs.
I could have combined it with home insurance too but I didn't.

Hi everyone. I remember reading somewhere (I can't remember where!) that a lady who made fabric handbags at home had a fire and that her insurance didn't cover any of her craft items or finished stock. She was left with what she was standing in, although her house and contents were covered she got nothing for her fabric and stock etc. If you counted up how much stock and supplies most of us have in our homes I think it is vital that adequate insurance is taken out.

The NMTF insurance, will cover your needs, its a bit dearer than most at£76 PA but I have found over the years that it is accepted by everyone, and it makes no differance what you are selling. There is also the benifit that they will advise you on any market/fair related problems, just dont use their legal service, you could run up a fair bill

Yes I can too get product liability insurance...no problem! They are happy to take your money. But have you read the small print and asked if they cover products that you have made yourself? You will soon find they turn round and say they can't insure you. If you do not make this clear to them and you need to make a claim, your insurance will be usless.

Yes, I specifically told them I make the products myself.

Hello,
thank you for letting me know. I will look into this then. I have tried lots of companies, and have had a awful problem. Fine till you read the small print, then I am back to square one.
Thanks

Hi there,
Direct Line for business is great for me. I just got mine sorted today for £52.50 for the year, all done online too which has been a big help as my first fair is this saturday so i don't have time to send off cheques.
They have arts and crafts retailer as trade option which a lot of companies don't have. It has taken me ages to find one!
I know of AIR PPL (part of a-n.co.uk) who insure artists (including crafters) for around £28 p/a. They sounded great but there was no option that I could see to register as a business as opposed to an individual and I wanted to make sure everything has the business name on my insurance etc
Hope this info helps

I highly recommend you get a few comparison qoutes online, then approach a broker, this way you will have a better chance of negotiating a better rate

I disagree. I found brokers hopeless if you wanted something out of the ordinary. We were looking for juggling insurance at one point. We searched, we asked, got nowhere. Asked another juggler and there is an insuance deal out there just for jugglers, happy with fire, knives etc at a reasonable price. I needed insurance for markets and demos. You can get one and not the other. Talking to others doing what you are doing is the way to find the good deals.
A by the by on the NFMT. They give you £25 off vouchers if you take out other insurance with them, eg buildings, contents, car etc. (which are geared to cover stock). I stack up those vouchers and pay a pittance to renew the original insurance.

Wedding Insurance protects you and your most awaited wedlock day against these kind of unforeseen incidents. These are the things which is really out of your control, you have no control over it and you cannot stop these kind of mishaps because it is mishap. You have only a chance to pay a small one off payment to the insurance company and they will offer you the peace of mind to ensure it remains the happiest day of your life.
But here I want to discuss many kind of insurances like......:p
