I was wondering if any of you use a second pen with your Peter Child.... Im still using the tip that came fixed to the pen when i bought it and havent even attempted to change it yet - I was wondering if it worth getting a second pen that i can perhaps keep the shading/spoon tip on permanently -
I dont even know how easy it is to change the tips and havent even used the spoon tip yet so im getting ahead of myself a bit here. just thought it might be good to a have ready loaded pen at the ready.... and im a lazy so and so !!!
just a thought for the future

Ok ..... So ive got off my backside and changed the nib to the spoon shader after embarrassing myself by being so lazy...
I found it easy to change and i love the effect of the shader, Its certainly something i will make good use of.
Still wondering if it might be nice to have one permanently to hand on a second pen... I have little dicipline and tend to flit about from one area to another - perhaps thats something I`ll learn to control with experience

I'm wishing I'd gone for the machine with 2 pens too.

Are you? we can still order the second pen though Sami ! I think its £28 for the pen and £3 for the adapter if you are going to plug them in at the same time, good for two people to work off one machine i guess - if i rememerber right the "delux set" was £141 so all we lose is the book or dvd for £13 -so we wouldnt have saved much anyway ( ive actually ordered 2 used books for £10 from Amazon anyway)

I complete many of my designs just using a spoon point alone. You can use the bowl for shading and then flip the pen to use the fine edge for linework, so it really is extremely versatile.

do you draw the initial lines with it aswell then?
I did experiment by turning the spoon point over but the edge went straight into the wood, it was like it was too sharp!

Try using a lower temperature setting. The heat is focussed into a smaller contact area so it is easier to burn the wood. I draw pretty much all my lines with the edge of a spoon point and find it easy to use and handle.

It's definitely easier changing your tips. They don't bounce out when doing up the screw like the ones that came with the pen do! :)
