Hi,
Don't know if anyone on here uses a electric bench grinder (for sharpening tools, blades etc) ?
Well I had a very near miss today while using mine:o in fact it very nearly took my face off:o:mf:
I replaced one of the wheels recently with one I bought off Ebay and to cut a long story short, while i was grinding a chisel it basically exploded and put a 8" hole straight through my studio roof! and also embedded a lump in my arm (ouch) if it had gone forwards instead of up then I'm sure i wouldn't be here today.
After having a sit down (picking myself up);) I checked on the other 4 unused wheels and 3 of them had very fine cracks running through them and actually fell apart when i lightly tapped it on my bench:o
I tried to find the seller on ebay but they are no longer registered suprise?
So anyone buying similar items check them before using or may not be as lucky as i am.
Cheerio off for a lay down LoL
Brian (stuntman);)
Ps the seller also sold cutting discs for angle grinders and dremel type tools and were based in Manchester area so may be still selling under a new name?

Thank you for letting us know, I recently bought some saw blades off ebay for my dad. I think they are ok and I dont think they came from Manchester, but will check.

So glad you are ok, what a lucky escape!

Oooh, that's not good! That can happen if they get overheated, or get heated and cooled quickly...

I use grinding wheels a lot and always buy known brands for that very reason, its worth paying a bit more.
Usually if the wheel has a fault it will run out of true, (wobble or the machine will vibrate more than usual) if thats happening then turn it off and stand well clear till it stops, a visual inspection under a good light will usually show up the fault, then before you throw it away smash it so you dont use it by mistake,

Aye they were Sealey brand so notcheapest (£28.00 each) last one's i used were Draper cost £11.00 each and had no problems:mad:
I always check to see if they a running true etc and always careful handling them hence reason I was shocked when it went bang:o (I shouted swear words i didn't know i knew)LOL
I had to have the remains dug out of my arm today (ouch) so stings a bit now.
Last time i had anything go bang was 5 years ago when a brushcutter blade sheared off and stuck in a rose bush:mf:
