More Sewing Machine Help

I've always wanted an embroidery machine and my husband has now said I can have one :pile:Can anyone recommend make, model etc or the best place to get one or any info on one.

Well, if you can justify a trip across the border, Oswaldtwistle Mills has a section for embroidery machines - new and second hand.. we are talking the big semi pro types, hundreds of ££'s upwards, but they have a fair few on display, and things like computer software, threads patterns etc..

Can't recommend a machine though - I've not used the embroidery machines. Ideally find somewhere where you can try them out. For what it's worth, my friend has just bought a Singer machine for embroidery and is very happy with it. :)

I use Janomes and have always found them easy to use and the results are very good. I also use mine for freehand embroidery painting.

That sounds interesting! I'd love to try my hand at freehand machine embroidery!
Must admit, I love my Janome - only got it at christmas, but it's great. Solid and easy to use.
The Brother Innovis also has a good reputation as an embroidery machine though. So much choice! I don't envy you! :D

I have a Brother Innovis 1200 sewing/embroidery machine and love it.

It will really depend on your budget as they start from a few hundred pounds up to the £6,000 mark.

I set myself a budget of £1,000 and then researched all the different makes/models and compared all the features on them. Some of them give additional free stuff also, I think some of the Innovis models have the free PE Design software at the moment. At the time I bought mine I received a box of threads which has 10 drawers and I think there are about 300 threads so plenty to get me started!

I eventually bought it online but cannot remember where off the top of my head and I'm at work so can't check it!

I have gone for a brother innov-is 900 and just ordered it from sewing machines direct. It should be here tomorrow. I am soooooooooo excited!!

:):)Hiya, i have an embroidery machine, it's brilliant!!
Janome is meant to be a brilliant brand, but I bought a Brother, because it is soooo easy to use and the customer service is brilliant! My guarentee ran out ages ago but I rang up with a problem and they sent out a free postage label staight away! it turned out that it wasn't the machine it was me being silly-doh! but they serviced and cleaned it anyway and sent it back to me!!!
Just 2 points to bear in mind -
*look carefully at the hoop size, mine is quite small, which I thought would be ok, but you quickly get addicted and hav loads of ideas for projects - and quite ofeten my embroidery area is too small.

*don't bother spending more money getting one that has lots of designs on or does disney for example.

You can get loads of brilliant designs online for either free or very cheap.

Check out embroidery library and urban threads - 2 of my faves. They both have loads of how to's and projects too.
