Manky chain!!!

I bought a silver plated chain from a top,expensive store(rhymes with Don Bewis).
I was under the impression that silver plated metal shouldnt go manky.It cost £3 for 1 metre(yes £3!! I kid you not)

But I wore a necklace the other day that I used this chain on, my mum looks at my neck later in the day and say 'your necks gone green!'.

Am I completey wrong in thinking sp chain is good to use?
What type of chain wont go green??!!

was the chain specified for jewellery use?
Plated chain should be fine, however, different people have differnt oils in their skin (yes I've been there already today!) The chemicals in this oil can react with the metals. The chance is that the chain you bought was copper based (hence the green)

The chain was in the craft dept of the shop but your right its maybe not necessarily just for jewelery use.

I think it also depends on the weather! No really!!!

I often wear gold and silver plated, which by their very nature are not going to last forever as the plating is very thin, but should be ok for a long enough time. However I wore a gp neckace one weekend in the intense heat and a lot of the gold colour came off from my sweat. I've worn it plenty other times and its been fine, so I'm confident it was the excessive sweating that did it!

plated chain shouldnt be expensive though - I think you ought to find a new supplier!

If it went green, chances are that it was silver plated tin or maybe steel.

Isn't there a website where you could get it really cheap? Or ebay even? Obviously a better quality one I mean, as I'm sure that you will need something to do justice for your work.

Liz-have to agree with you, both times a necklace went green on me I was sweating alot(not what you wanna hear, but factual)

The stirling silver chains Ive seen are around £1.50 each.Do you other jewelery people pay that much?
