Hiya
Cooksons (http://www.cooksongold.com/Jewellery-Tools/Student-Starter-Kit-ONLY-59.99-prcode-999-096A)do a student silver smithing kit for £59.99 - not sure how much you want to spend though?
I have bought a lot of my silver smithing kit from Cooksons, ebay and I got a gas torch and vice from Aldi! You just have to shop about a bit.
Good luck with it.

Hi,
I love silversmithing too and started with Cooksons, but I think they err on the expensive side, when I need a particular tool (want really, not need)http://www.craftsforum.co.uk/images/icons/icon12.gif I google it to see who has the cheapest, this is a good site and I think they might sell on ebay too- http://www.jewelleryandwatchtools.co.uk/h.htm
Proops is another one, they have their own website and also sell on ebay.

And for the crafter who said she wants a sewing machine too - I just got mine from discountsewingmachines.co.uk (I think it is co.uk) wow it's brilliant - problem is I need to work full time to enable me to afford my crafting hobby!!!:D

I usually get my tools from Cousins, cousinsuk.com and HS Walsh sell decent stuff too! If you're anywhere near Birmingham it's worth popping into the jewellery quarter - not for the jewellery shops but for the tool shops!
Betts metal is quite good for sheet and wire too :)

Try www.gouldjewellers.co.uk (http://www.gouldjewellers.co.uk) they do odd things really cheaply, I remember in the past they had rolling mills for about £150 which is pretty reasonable. I get safety pickle from them and they do cheap bench pegs which I get for teaching.

Hi
A good basic book on how to do it will show you all the tools you need. When you are aware of what you want, one of the best places to find all sorts of things on a limited budget is car boot sales. This weekend I picked up files, fret saws and 2 forging hammers all for £4. If you can wait you will eventually pick up really useful stuff plus have fun searching for it.

Try jewels and tools (http://www.jewelsandtools.co.uk) - I've found the equipment they sell is quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else. Great for starting out.
