Dylon

I bought some dylon dye at the weekend, hoping to dye some fabric with cold dye.

Got teh dye, got the fixative, will buy the salt.

Ive jsut read the instructions and Ive bought dye that I have to boil up in water!!

Dam my stupidity, now il hav to wait til the weekend to buy the right stuff.
Or do you think I should give it a go anyway in cold water?

I would try the boiling method but not keen on buying a saucepan just for dying plus using the cooker costs money.Why do that when I can use a cold dye.

I tried to dye some calico and cotton with the purple cold dylon dye i had but it went all blotchy.
Some areas were dark blue others were purple.I rinsed it to get the excess dye out and the bits definatly went more blue.
It looked like tie dye, which reminds me of hippy students, which isnt an ideal image for me.

Did I do something wrong?
I think i may try the hot boiling dye method, I get the impression it will soak in evenly.

Im trying to avoid that option, I dont think mum would be too happy me using the washing machine in that way.I can see it still turning other clothes a certain colour a few washes down the line.

I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem with that. I did several lots of towels last year - with dark blue and dark green dye - and haven't had any problem at all. By the time you've washed the stuff, dyed it, then washed it again to clear the excess dye it's also cleared all the tubes etc in the machine.

If there were problems with dye remaining in the machine and causing damage to future washloads then the stuff wouldn't be on sale.

You can use the hot one on your washing machine I think. Be sure to do a empy wash with tablets before doing your regular washing again.
