I had a meeting with a lady from Business Gateway. She was lovely and said as i am unemplyed i can apply for a grant of up to £1000. I doubt i would get all of that but i hope i would get something. I need to make a business plan and a wish list of items i would buy with the money. They would be silversmith tools i think and a laptop as i dont have a computer at all. It belongs to my ex.

So in a few weeks i need to stand up and present why i need the money! Has anyone done this before, with Business Gateway.

Thing is if i get a job before i apply for this grant then i cant apply for it. If i get offered a job though i am taking it! Its more important than a one off sum of money.

Good luck on both sides, with the job hunting and the business grant!

Can't help with the question but wanted to wish you loads of luck with whichever comes first!;)

Can't help you with the details but can give moral support. You can do it, you have come this far so go for it, get what you can.

Hi
My son got this grant last year.He to had to go before a panel and write out a business plan.He said they where all very approachable and also offered him some extra help which was really helpful as these where things he had not considered.

He to was unemployed at the time and looking for full time employment.
He got the grant ,but I think it took around 6 weeks for it all to be sorted out .He did not actually see the money so to speak, but had to do a list of what he would need.He got a new pc ,desk ,chair and so much for advertising the business, business cards etc.Two weeks after this went through he got a full time job,but has also continued the self employed business and it is now classed as his 2nd job with the inland revenue.
Wish you well with everything

Its interesting as some people say they just got given a cheque, others had to give exactly what they are going to spend the cash on and they get hte items instead.
