Hi guys,
I wonder if you can help.
I have customer who would like a custom design. He is looking for some earrings for his wife.
The are to be large silver hoops with coloured beads in the inside of the rim.
Has anyone got any ideas how I could do this??
I was think of buying some large silver hoops and glueing small beads to the rim of the earring.
Thank you,
Lou

Hi Lou,
you can buy hoops that open at the top so you can thread beads on and then close it again and attach to ear wires, hope this makes sense.
Unfortunately I don't know what they are called or where to get them, mine came in a set. Hopefully some one else may be able to help you with that.
Good luck.
Sue.

Sadly they only do the smaller rings on the outside of the hoop www.beadsisters.co.uk look under bali silver, chandeliers and connectors.
You could try soldering the jump rings on teh inside to connect the beads on.
Hanging beads, is that what you meant?

This is what the email said. I called him and he couldn't explain it any better.
"Would it be possible if you could make me an earring - big ring earrings silvery in colour and hollow with tiny coloured beads/balls inside which can be seen from the outer ring edge."

Hmm, its not very detailed is it.
What have you come up with so far re design?
I cant imagine him suggesting sticking beads on.
Maybe he means the actual big ring is hollow and the beads are slid in and they travel along the inner pathway of the earring.
Or am I just complicating things?!
I can't see how you would stick beads only one side, I mean, how would that work? You'd need a bespoke piece of wire with pads to glue beads on? Stringing beads onto a big loop makes sense, using swarovski, that might work, but then again you have to find the loop!...

Hmm, Id suggest making a loop out of thin wire but if it has to go through small bead holes the wire isnt going to be thick and sturdy enough to keep its shape.
What a dillema!
It's not a very clear description of what he wants but maybe this might be what he's after.................big might!
Thread small beads onto thin silver wire and wrap the wire around the top end of hoop a few times, bring up a bead to sit/rest on the inside of hoop and then another couple of wraps with wire, bring up next bead and sit that on the inside of hoop, again wrap the wire...............until you have completed the earring.
or
could he be meaning that he's looking for small beads to swing/move freely within the hoop?

It sound to me as though he is looking for channel set earrings.
If you look at engagement rings you may get an idea of the sort of thing.
it might be an idea to speak to him a little more about what he wants rather than waste time looking for things that are not going to be right.
keep us up to date with the goings on!

I have looked right through my manufacturers listings and there do not seem to be any findings that would suit the style at all!
Good luck!

I think all you can do is make your own interpretation of the earrings going on his description.
If you can, could you ask him to draw his idea.
Id be really narked off with him if yuo present him with the earrings and he says 'no thats not what I meant, I meant more like this, and this etc'.
If he cant explain it any more, verbally or visually, do your own interpretation.

I did ask and he has sent me a drawing and now I see what he means.
He wants a ball of beads suspended in a hooo.
He is really nice and does not mind how I do it as long as its easy for me.
Ill let you know how I get on.

After speaking with the client again, I have come to the conclusion that he needs a silversmith.
This is what he sent to me.
Would it be possible if you could have the crystals within the 'wire' of the hoop - so the silver would wrap around the crystals. Say for example you had a cylinder - a 'see through' pencil say and filled this hollow pencil with the crystals then moulded the pencil into a hoop. Can this be done? the pencil would be the sterling silver (or any other material silver in colour) and instead of the silver being 'see through' it would have a slit or gap on one side from which you can see the crystals. This sounds a bit ambitious! but is it possible?
Is anyone able to do this for me client? If so please PM me and I will give you his details.
Thanks, Lou
