I'm pleased with it as its my first one but would like your opinions please
I used this technique
http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ee/index.php/resources/tutorials/stamping_on_candles/
and have heard that they are for decoration only because of the tissue paper used
if thats the case I was thinking of adding gems around the top of the candle and putting a warning on them or should I not try to sell them because of the safety aspect
again opinions please

Very clever technique.
However I know somebody in my house would light it, no matter what warnings it came with , after all that's what you do with a candle. But then I'm not one for decorative things really.

would it be too dangerous to try and sell them then ??

I wouldn't say dangerous but do make sure your warning includes the words along the line of
" the seller assumes no responsibility if the candle is lit as it is a purly decorative item"

It is a lovely idea and your'e candle is very sweet, ideal for Valentines day.

Have you lit one to see how it burns?

no I haven't - maybe I'll forget the gems and get a small heart stamp and stamp hearts on
would a warning like that cover me ???

ohh I don't know if it would cover you, it does seem to be a common disclaimer thou.

perhaps I'll just make them for friends and family
I would hate to get myself into any trouble

I'm sure if you worded any disclaimer properly you'd be OK.

Mind you, in our household, something so pretty would never get burned. We have tons of soap my mum has produce, which my OH has deemed "too lovely to wash with"!! :)

as long as the warning is worded correctly and states that you take no responsability for items that are lit etc etc you will be fine. If they dont read it, thats the customers fault and not yours. Just issue a warning with the items and all will be fine :D

Although, if it's not to be lit, that makes me wonder - could you miss out the wick, or put one in which is purely decorative (e.g goes just to the surface), so it CANT be burned..? :)

Thats actually not a bad idea, or maybe dont do candles, just make decorative wax blocks :p

Oh no, that set my brain off. I wonder what would happen if political correctism was brought to the world of crafts??

A nice new "Traditional-yet-non-ethnically-or-religiously-specific-light-generating-cylinder-shaped-construct-made-from-a-non-specific-material-which-may-or-may-not-be-burned" anyone? :mf:

I'm not actually making the candles ( god I'm not THAT clever lol ) but I could trim the wick down so it can't be burnt
why didn't I think of that lol

I've decorated candles like that and it's not dangerous to burn... or no more dangerous than an ordinary candle.

The tissue paper doesn't burn, it stays standing like a 'shell'.

If you were to sell them, I'd explain what you'd done that's all.

ah thanks John thats handy to know
I've made some for our Mums for mothers day so will just let them know the technique involved , don't think they'll be burning them somehow

Lovely candle and I agree most Mums won't want to burn them, I know I wouldn't.

I would not risk selling that as there is the potential to burn it, disclaimer or not and that can still come back on you as the seller. And if you don't have any insurance ................

You can buy special paper to use on candles and candle pens to draw on them which would still allow you to make safe sellable and burnable candles and be able to make your lovely creations without worrying about the burning issues. ;)

Hi there

Not my scene to do decals and painting but I have seen the kits on lots of US sites and I remember seeing some candle pens on ebay and sensory perfection. I think the decals are there too - worth a search to see as they really can look awsome. I haven't the patience for that, but I do love to see them.

Hi..

It seems like you were doing great, but adding a little more details will do..
by the way another idea is candle carving and adding colors to show details of your carving..

Anyone know where you can get good decals?

I must say the 'tissue paper method' isn't anything like as dangerous as you might think. I've done it loads... but it would be nice if the picture 'melted' with the candle.
