Glue or Varnish or ideas

Im new to craft forums (also the computer). I want to know how to finish silk covered buckles to protect them from falling apart.

There is a product called Fray stop(something like that)which you can get in material shops.
Its a clear liquid you put on the end of material and it kinda seals it like a clear glue.
