Hello all, I hope you're well :-)
Never thought about making candles before but after having a look atr some beautiful handmade ones, I decided I want to have a go myself. The only trouble is that I'm slightly confused about how you know how much fragrance oil to use? I cannot do ratios to save my life!
Any tips would be greatfully received :-)
Thanks

Hi Sarah,
What wax are you planning on using would it be parrafin or soy?
Soy wax is able to hold more scent than parrafin and for parrafin to be able to hold scent you need to add vybar.
Each scent and wax forumla is different but as a rule of thumb parrafin wax can hold roughly 6% scent which means if you have 100g parrafin/vybar mix then you could add up to 6g of scent.
Soy can hold 8% to 10% roughly so same formula 100g soy you could add 8g to 10g of scent.
This is a rough guide as you will be able to add more scent of one particular kind than another. Some scents are heavier than others and you need to use less.
If this doesn't make sense let me know as I am absolutely terrible at explaining things.
Anything else give me a shout.
HTH.
Cheers.

Hi Lisa, thanks so much, what you said does make sense, it was very clear :-)
I think I'll probably stick to parafin at the moment - I've decided on a kit first of all, don't want to throw myself in at the deep end. It was actually your site that inspired me, I really love your candles, they're gorgeous :-)
Thanks for your help, I'll probably have lots or questions though!

Aw thanks Sarah you made me blush there :p
You've made the right choice going with a paraffin starter kit as soy can be a right swine to work with - a total pain in the wotsits trying to wick them!!! I think if I had started with Soy instead of Paraffin I would have jacked the whole lot in long long long ago.
Good luck and anthing else just give me a shout.
Cheers.
