Hi, I have never used a rotary cutter and would like to have from your kind selves, opinions on how useful they are.May I ask, the best brand to use, how do they compare with using scissors and how are they at cutting multiple layers of fabric?

Thank you all

I use an Olfa for cutting patchwork pieces with a quilters rule, invaluable and much quicker and more accurate than scissors

Hi

I have used a few different rotary cutters and found them all be be fine. I use mine a lot but you may also need a self healing cutting board (to avoid cutting into your table) and a plastic ruler (you will use this to cut straight lines with your cutter). It will cut through several layers of fabric and if you are cutting out straight pieces of fabric it will be even and much straighter than using a pair of scissors. I have a couple in different sizes - I love them that much! Creative Grids(they are online) do packages of the mat, cutter and ruler although I know you can get them most craft places.

I echo what was said above - more accurate and much faster than scissors. So far I've only bought the Creative Grids starter pack of mat, cutter and ruler, but I have my eye on a bigger mat and different shapes of ruler. I use mine for patchwork, and also for cutting bias binding (dead simple!) and even just for cutting accurate larger squares for bag making. :)

I keep two on the go. Always use the new one for fabric and relegate the old one for paper and anything else. Wouldn't be without them.

I just read all these replies and think I may give one a try myself now! Thanks

I second the keeping one for fabric and another for paper and other bits. I have an Olfa for my fabric but prefer the handle on my other one - which I don't know the name of.

Always get a shock how quickly they get blunt though!!
