I've been reading a thread about optimising your website etc and found the following info:
set up a google webmaster account, submit site and get it verified by pasting hmtl code to main page. put an xml. site map file in your highest directory and tell google were it is. ensure your site is search engine optimized, SEO before hand. google looks for interesting and unique content, information. if all goes well you will be listed in days. if not...a year. then its about promotion and marketing. - written by Aurrida.
I've set up the webmaster account, but finding it difficult to verify my website - I'm trying to upload an HMTL code, I even tried the metatags options. It may be my stupidness, not being technical, but these have to be placed before the body - in the header section. This is where I find it difficult. I'm not able to access my header info. I use 123Reg - which are standard templates and I do not see any code of any sort, it's like it's hidden.
Is there any way around this. Does anyone have technical expertise that can speak in non-technical terms. I've tried the sitemaps stuff as well, but can't seem to get around this either.
It's driving me mad, just spent two hours trying this and now my blood is pumping!

I use a template but managed to insert the header, only problem the HTML now shows at the top of my site, not that bothered though. Sorry cannot remember how I did it more luck than judgement. I found the instructions a bit difficult though.

Using the meta option you need to be able to veiw the code of the pages.
All you need to do is find the following:
<head>
After that add the meta code from the google webmaster account in the verify section...
Hope that helps.

Hi,
Just some advice for Caroline, if you can see the code on your webpage it means you have inserted it within your <body> tag and not your <head> tag (as this info is invisible to the browser)... have you had verification from google to say your site is now set up for google analytics??? I think it might be worth checking :)

Thanks Mr M - that's the problem, I can't seem to get access to the <head> part of the page - I am not authorised. I can enter it like Caroline said in the body, but this is visible to the public and it will not verify.
On the template there is a scrift module that can be added to the front page, but I can not get it in the right place - <head> area.
Perhaps I am not able to do it????

I remember a friend saying that Reg123 isn't very user friendly when it comes to being able to change meta tags and such in the headers.... basically this friend couldn't access theirs either.
Not sure if they asked support to do it, or if it was just not a 'feature' they offer. To be honest, you might want to consider moving if possible if you are not allowed to optimize your website. That's what they ended up doing in the end.

Hi Kathryn, after reading the above threads and then looking at google again understood, don't even know how I got it into the header. What do you use for your web?

I use 123Reg, but someone mentioned earlier that they are not that user friendly for this kind of thing - which isn't particularly good business, especially when individuals want to do their own optimisation etc these days. I think I will have to phone them. What a nuisance!!

Google will give you the option of adding a html validation file or adding code to your header.
Open up notepad on your pc, then choose save, and save as the name google has given you, i.e. 1484635673576786.html then upload this to the same place in your root directory that your index.html file is located. If you are stuck and need ftp software, if you use firefox browser, you can download http://fireftp.mozdev.org/ then all you need is the ftp details to access your account and you can upload the html file from your desktop.

Just had a look at Bob Eveleigh's website and just love the big cats. They are absolutely stunning and beautiful - I just want to cuddle one!

I know they look cuddly but I think you may get a bit of a shock. He has just got back from Safari again, (his wife is one of my best friends) and I am linking his site this Monday on my blog with the Big Cat Live series, as these are the cats he has photographed. He has also safaried with Jonathan Scott interesting life.
