Embroidery Stitch Question

I am sewing a crewel kit at the moment and haven't done one since about 25 years ago.

The main stitch in the pattern is "encroaching satin stitch" - is this the same thing as "short and long stitch" just renamed? The kit I did back in the 80s had the short and long stitch throughout too (same make - Dimensions) - and the encroaching satin stitch seems to be the same thing.
