Hi All,
Anyone know the best way of cleaning the really thick glue off glass jars!!
I am trying to do some recycling of my coffee jars etc and the Glue the labels were attached with is awful!!
Thanks

Soak it in boiling water, and take after it with a window scraper! Or any other hard, sharp-edged matal object. If it really is glass, you shouldn't be able to hurt the jar...

Thanks Scorch
That worked well.
I scraped the big bits of with the scraper and then did the boiling water bit,,,,,,,,,,,just need to go and buy one of those cleaning things on a stick to clean the inside properly!!

White spirit comes in handy too with stubborn glue marks.

Hi
WD40 can be really useful for removing glue sometimes, or stubborn price labels on books etc. Use it sparingly with repeated applications sometimes.

Believe it or not, hairspray works brilliantly at removing "sticky stuff". When my DS was little he covered his bedroom drawers in stickers which stayed there for ages. I turned to an old fashioned book of household cleaning tips that my mum has and it recommended hairspray. It really does work!

Another easy way is to use warm water on a pan scourer with vegetable oil, margarine or even peanut butter. Not sure why but it works, it somehow dissolves it.
It is also useful for getting off marks left by sticky labels on anything not affected by water or oil.

Soak in hot water, and then take any residue off with Methylated Spirit.
Always worked for me
