Hiya all

I am new to the forum, but am in desperate need of advice. A friend of mine sells aromatherapy products and we have been talking about doing a candle section using her essential oil mixes and me making them.

I know all about revenue and book keeping, as my dad had his own business, what I don't know about is whether I would need insurance etc. I wouldn't be selling anything direct, it would all go through my friends business as they are her aromas'

Also, is there a definitive list of what oils go bang when mixed in with the wax?

Hope someone out there can help!!!!!

Sarah

I'm not an expert on them but I'm sure you would need public liability insurance to sell your own handmade candles, especially if someone had an accident and tried to hold you responsible. It's a small price to pay for the peace of mind it would give you. There are numerous threads on here about different brokers and policies on offer if you use the Search facility.

Though I don't *think* you are legally required to have insurance (might be wrong on that - I don't do candles!) it would be very advisable. The costs aren't usually too bad. Lots of places do insurance especially for crafters and having insurance will give you that extra peace of mind too.

I paid £115 for mine, I could have got it cheaper but this policy had more coverage (more craft fairs) and a few extras that I wanted. I think the cheapest I found was about the £60 mark.

Meant to add that mine covers a range of crafts - I just told them I do a variety of crafts and this policy covers it all. So it would likely be cheaper if you were just covering one craft.
