Printing on silk fabric sheets

Hello everyone

My first time on the forum, any forum in fact.... bit scarry..... oh well here goes. Can anyone reccommend an inkjet printer which prints onto fabric sheets? I want to print my photos onto silk or cotton to make greeting cards.

You might try printing onto those inkjet fabric-transfer sheets, and ironing it down?

I've been told that most inkjet printers should take fabric sheets but an article I read said not all make a good job. I've an old Epson at the moment but it needs changing. I think what I will do is purchase the sheets and go round my friends and try their printers!

I print onto fabric sheets; cotton lawn, poplin, organza and silk. sometimes I use EQ printables and other times I use Bubble jet 2000 etc. and process the fabric myself. I have a fairly straighforward Hewlett Packard officejet D155xi. This is not a printer designed for photographs or anything but I do get good results from it. I suspect that most reasonably priced printers are up to the job.

I warn you it gets kind of addictive.....

Hope I'm doing this reply right, never been on a forum before, it's all a learning process!
I've just been reading an article by Hewlett Packard on the above and I think it's as you say most will do the job, just have to decide which one to choose in my price range.

I feel sure you have got some good replies to your question.

All I have to add is that, when my wife and I ran a craft workshop, we were asked to marble onto silk, the results were very good I remember.

I have also printed on paper backed cloths and the results were pretty good I thought.

You can also buy heavy sheets of rough watercolour paper which has been treated to make it as sensitive as a photo quality paper, the sheets are heavily textured, very nice paper this I have used it many times.

A company called Hahnemuhle in Germany make the paper, but sure to find it in other countries.

I have now got my Epson printer working properly so no need to buy a new one :)

I have just ordered some silk fabric sheets and am looking forward to printing my flower photos onto them.

I know this wasn't the orginal question but you can have so much fun with this, whether you make cards or textile items. Have you every tried printing onto organza and layering it with other fabrics. For example, if you have a flower on the background paper/fabric then overlay the image with an image of a butterfly or butterflies printed onto the organza. It gives a lovely effect - delicate with a litte simmeryness from the organza.

So, one day when you feel like playing......

Silk sheets arrived today and I'm sooo pleased with the outcome. Printed off two sheets of two flowers taken from my photos.......one already used for a friends engagement card. Julia you said earlier it can become addictive........ how true....... housework taken a back seat today!

Your idea with the organza sounds lovely, perhaps when I'm a bit more proficient I'll give it a try. I've taken some photos of butterflies but they are still in the camera (not the butterflies);) Not got a digital but a very good old Nikon.
