I had a jewellery party last night at my hair salon. Just put a notice in the window and some flyers on the desk. Was so nervous all day yesterday it was silly but it went really well. Got to meet Carol (Critchley, thank you for coming), from the forum and had loads of clients popping in. Before I started I said I would be happy taking £50, anything more I would be ecstatic. Well what an evening! Non stop from 6 till 9pm and I took over £400!!!!! Makes it all worth it! Need to get busy now for the next fair as my stock is severley depleted! Selina

Try it Goldy, what have you got to lose? I'm lucky, I own the salon, but for the outlay of a couple of bottles of soft drinks and some Lambrusco, I'm thrilled to bits, especially after the awful week I had last week!! Selina

Well done!
See jewellery parties are the way forward, I'd be happy having 2 a month, just sometimes hard to get people to host them :nopity:
So I might host my own again in a few weeks.

Well done I'm glad it went well. Do you make your own jewellery to sell?:) I'm having trouble getting enough stock together to have a party as I haven't enough hours in the day to make it all! x

I have been asked twice this week already if I can have some jewellery parties.....
I am going to have one or two at the end of August then wait until october/november and have several. This is so I can make enough stuff to sell!

I have a couple of craft fairs booked and I will definitely have another 'doo' at the salon, probably the first week of Dec, just after everyone gets paid at the end of Nov! And yes I do make it all myself, usually sitting in front of the telly at night. Need to get busy now really instead of chatting as I have about 6 commissions from last night to get done too. Selina

That's great news Selina - you must be over the moon with £400 of sales :D
It's good to know people are still spending as well, what with all the doom & gloom on the news about the credit crunch etc.

I enjoyed popping in to meet you You had a lovely spread of jewelry. It all looked very tempting and lots of folk were comming and going. I took a friend with me (My twin Grandsons other Grandma) and she loved it. I am so pleased you did so well you deserved it as a lot of hard work went on to make such a showing.

Fantastic Selina! Jewellery parties are definitely the way to go :)
But I agree it's hard to get people to actually book them.
I have one on Sunday and slightly nervous :)

Have you thought of approaching your local "posey" pub? (As opposed to the local "spit and sawdust dive") ;) Normally the landlady will be glad to have a night for the ladies and will even put on some sandwiches and stuff for the customers cos a party will fill the pub on a night when its normally empty. You don't have any outlay whatsoever.
Before my days as a hand-crafter I used to sell the bought in stuff ( :o you'll all be glad to know that these days I only buy in the very fiddly tiny gemstone stuff that takes far too long to make to be able to sell at reasonable prices).
I used to do jewellery parties with the stuff I got from the warehouse, making sure that I only ever had one of a kind items, and my average takings were £300 - £500 a night. I used to offer 20% commission to their favourite charity. I also used to sell raffle tickets for £1 each and let the winner choose one thing from about 4 or 5 different items as their prize.
Don't see why it wouldn't work selling hand-crafted stuff. The only thing that stops me from doing them with my handmade jewellery is the fact that I have to keep the stall stocked up and I'm trying to make a "stash" for the christmas selling period.

Its funny you mentioned that, because the last party that I actually had myself was at a pub, I'd never used the venue before, but they let me use it for nothing and put food on for free, it was on their 'quiet' night, so I did have to invite people myself, but it did work.
The only thing is I try not to have parties myself too often because the same people get invited and I don't want them to get bored.. although they haven't yet!
So yeah I might book one in the end of Aug at the same place. One party usually rolls on to another, I seem to get one booked in at every party I do, which is good.

I must have missed this thread while I was away, but I just wanted to say congratulations on an excellent result. If only 'wooden parties' could work as well as jewellery parties!! Well done and good luck for the next one too!

thats brilliant well done
my friend and I had a card/ jewellery party last year she made jewellery and I made cards
we did quite well but no where near the £400 !! now I'm going to have a go at making jewellery and we already make cards so might think about having a party near christmas
I always worry no one will turn up and if they do they'll only buy something cos they feel they have to but then thats the way my mind works no confidence in myself lol

Hi Selina,:D
Just got back off hols so only just saw your thread!! Fab news. Parties do seem to be the way to go. I've done 3 (I think!) and took a similar amount each time! Hoping to get another booking in September - I dont think I could manage more than 1 party a month tho' cos of stock!
Keep in touch.

Hi Claire, nice to hear from you, thanks to everyone for their good wishes. I think I might have one the first week of Dec just after everyone gets paid at the end of Nov LOL. One of my clients makes cards so she may well join me and the sandwich shop next door is already talking about opening and offering turkey baps and hot chocolate, could be a nice evening I think. Have you tried doing one Si...? Perhaps you could even share one with another crafter ...nothing ventured/nothing gained etc...
Selina you should definately try another one!
