waste plastics

I'm new to this forum but my husband said I should pop a post in this section, he is a plastics engineer/welder and is inundated with pieces of plastic that are too small to use for his business. A local school used to take them for their C.D.T dept but no longer do. Unfortunatelly his line of work is industrial so the colours are mainly white black and grey. Anyway if anyone thinks they could use it let me know.

Could they be used for crafting templates of some sort????

I don't think they'd be much good for template's, I do use the plastic for a couple of template's but only the most basic shapes, pity so much of it go's in the bin.

what sort of sizes are they?

He says they range from tiny up to about 2ft x 1ft with thickness of 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 9mm and 12mm.

a 2 ft piece could be used as a template for some things

Oh, there just HAS to be a use for those...But I can't think of one right now! You'd think that any modern arts place would like it... or maybe try Freecycle?

Yes Freecycle is a good idea. I've seen lots of "wanteds" on our local freecycle for strange and bizarre things wanted by artists and students for all sorts of projects. Might be worth a try.

I'm always on the lookout for template material for qujilting ut 3mm is a bit too thick - pitty. Could it be cut with a Stanley knife? Would it make workboards for my craft classes, it only needs to be 12/18" square?

I would be interested in some of the thicker bits to use for jewellery displays. I'm not too fussy on the sizes but any rectangles would be good.

Np, my husband says he will cut a load into decent size's and take a pic so everyone can see what they're like. Limited use I think, but you never know.
