    Making bags

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I would really like to have a go at making some bags from some fabric, curtain material etc and was wondering how I could get started.

I am not a good sewer but I am going to borrow my sister in laws machine so any tips on what I need etc would be very welcome.

    Thank you!

You can get some really simple bag patterns, there's usually lots of patterns on eBay.

        Hi!
Making bags can be as simple or as complicated as you want, depends what style of bags you want to make. For simple tote bags all you need is fabric and a machine and some form of pattern, either made up or bought! Good idea to look on ebay for patterns - there are some lovely ones from the US. It will also give you ideas about the different types you can make. Hope this helps

Hiya - making bags is so much fun & quickly becomes addictive.... so useful for presents too. I find a lot of inspiration at U-handbag blog although sometimes I get a bit depressed at how much more beautiful some of the bags are that I could ever make....The great thing about that blog is that there are loads of tutorials about stuff like interfacing, piping, fasteners & all the rest of it.

One thing I do is buy 2nd hand bags from the £1 rail in one of our local charity shops. I take them home, take them apart & make a pattern. This is also highly useful because you get lots of zips, buckles, rings & bits of useful fabric too.
