Dont know whether anyone lives close enough by to make this worthwhile but you can get a table outside some of the shops on a Friday and Saturday.
We paid £45 for a table on the Friday and although it wasn't really worth it for us ... Anglesey to London ... grotty hotel etc ... the girl next to us was selling glass jewellery.
She has been doing it for 2 years ... just working the 2 days on the market and making during the week. Her hubby had recently left his building job to help her as it's become that succesful :o ~x~

Where do you apply for a stall? I'm in London and shortly will be moving pretty close to Portobello Road. Do you ask the shops themselves, or do you have to go through the market organisors?

If you do some googling you'll come up with various options ... I phoned up one of the shop owners ... I can't remember his name now but I have still got his number. If anyone wants it please PM me and remind me it's in the Pink Book :D Don't be put off by his manner ... he's very abrupt and very grumpy!!!!!
All the stallholders were lovely and really helpful ... they even told us how to park our van for free and found us a space which they stood in while we parked :D and he was OK too in the end ... just a bit strange!!
Didn't Cath Kidston start on Portobello Road too :o ~x~

that is lovely, could do something like that but I still don`t have enough items to get one full table...
maybe there is someone who would like to share the stall sometimes, ha!
well, I won`t be next Vivienne Westwood anyway, she is really fantastic!!!
wish you luck there...

Funnily enough I was just thinking along similar lines ... maybe a few of you could get together and the ones closest could actually do the market with the others paying the cost of the stall etc ... maybe you could set the stall out in rows with each makers business cards at the front of each row :) ~x~

That sounds great. I agree, I think for the small businesses like us it could be a good idea to get together and share a stall together or maybe organise a catwalk !!
If viv westwood had the chance and for sure lots of talent to become what she is today starting from a stall in a market , unfortunately it won't be the case for 99% of the stall owners and small businesses.
However if we put our strength and talent together maybe we can come up with a very nice product collection, an eye catching stall or ... a famous catwalk show ;)
Nice to dream about it...but just think about it... and propose your ideas.
I am definitely and happily in :D

I don`t live in London but not far and actually always got the place to stay there (very good friends of mine) and got time and I would be really happy to do it one day... (or maybe more days, ha)

Although this is very helpful I cant believe tillybalou you have published someones personal mobile number on here. I would get that taken off soon, he's well within his rights to go mental and take it out on this forum.

Do you think so  ... I figured it would be OK as I got his number off one of the Portobello Market Websites and it was him who put it there :confused: ~x~

Ahh thats different then if he has put it on a website himself. I thought you had just got hold of it and put it up. Sure he'd be very happy with his description :)

To be honest, we nearly didn't go down because of his attitude. He sounded totally disinterested and we half expected to turn up and there be no stall available!!
I just didn't want anyone else to feel put off if they spoke to him ;) ~x~
Edit: I'll take the nuber off anyway ... just in case ... if anyone wants it just pm me ... remind me it's in the pink book though :D ~x~

Without giving a good reason...

I passed by Covent Garden market not too long ago and there were loads of jewellery stalls. So I can understand if they don't want any more. I had a good look at all their displays though and made myself a few notes of things I picked up on.
