I Find myself watching craft demos on the shopping channels to often these days but I love picking up ideas-but they annoy the hell out of me!

Everthing is 'your'...'here is your embellishments', 'here is your vellums'- it's not your... because if it was I want it back!

I also hate the fact that card has now become 'cardstock'- don't know why but it get's on my wick!

Is it just me? What's your crafty pet peeve?

The start of the "Grumpy Old Crafters" thread!!

My 'peeve' would have to be the people who manage to browse a whole craft fair of several dozen tables in 7.3 seconds flat... these people should be training for the 2012 Olympics as nothing will stop them in their unswerving route back towards the main doors! They do not make eye contact with anyone or stop to look at the wares on show... it really makes me wonder why they bother setting foot inside the event in the first place.

PVA glue being called anything but PVA glue... like "craft glue" (any glue might be used for crafts) or "white glue" (I think pritt stick is white and a glue isn't it?!). I like to know I've got polyvinyl actate!!

"Hand finished" cards in the cheap card shops. We all know that there is some poor soul (possibly even a robot!) out in Asia somewhere who sticks on 1 very pointless item to the factory produced card.

And time for me to be a quilling "snob" but I hate those "ready to stick" quilled shapes that are on the market these days because there are a lot out there that look like they were made by something with less brain than my pet fish.

Heheheh!!

Look what you've started here!!:D

Mine would be getting a freebie with a magazine and its all stuck together to look pretty in the packet with some sort of amazing rubber glue that WILL NOT peel off and thus I cannot use the freebie........

It happened last night....

Ooh - don't you just love them!! One I was at recently - an outside event so we were in a marquee - quite a few people walked through the entrance to the marquee with a burger between both hands!!!! You just knew they were not going to buy - and as I sell cards I hoped I was right!! Greasy packets not a nice look.

Ooooooh I know, we did one at Christmas and I swear there were some people who walked in the room stood in the doorway, did a quick sweep of with their eyes and walked out again. WHY!?!

I do enjoy watching craft demos on shopping channels but I always have this sneaking mistrusting suspicion at the back of my mind when they keep saying "oh, we've sold 80% of our stock now so if you see it, BUY IT, make sure you get yours"......

.....methinks they've got lumps of it round the back (Life of Brian)

i also watch craft channels and it annoys me when they keep saying this is my absolute favorite, when they say it about every product they are selling.i often turn the sound down and just watch the techniques when they get a chance to show them.

retailers who stick those sticky price labels directly to the card and to get them off, you peel off bits of the card

I hate the way some things are packaged. All packed in tight cello bags that have been fastended with a flap of resealable glue and when you -or is it' I?' - or 'one' ?- opens the pack everything you take out or put back in sticks to the sticky flap!!! Does that make sense?
I am also with Si on the Craft Fair 'don't catch anyones eye or I might get a serious illness or go blind ' people!!!
What a moany lot we can be when we try!!! Sue xx:D

People who stand at your stall and say in a very loud voice ' Well I could make that' Well bugger off and do it then!!! Oh and snotty people in craft shops that don't like you going in with children - too bad as I either come in with the children or you don't get any of my money!

Cardstock .... yep that's one of mine too!

I also hate it when people try to pass of mass produced goods as their own.

I hate the people at craft fairs who just don't get the handmade thing and look at it as though it's a dirty word.

I hate the cheap-stakes who look through my silver plated earrings (£2.50) and then seem shocked that they are not sterling silver !! Or the same ones who um and ah over that price and then decide they are too dear !! Then they go and buy two cup of coffee and cake for £3.50.
There are also the people who will ask exactly how you make something and then tell you they will make it themselves. and people who ask you how much the earring wires are and then expect a proper pair with beads etc for the same price.

Not guilty! What miserable so-and-so's. I'm quite near the primary school so get lots of children in with their parents/grandparents and love to see their reactions when they spot the glittery paper and then the wooden frogs and then the 3D butterflies - htey are like kids in a sweet shop all wide-eyed and 'wow'. And when I hear them say 'mummy that's my favourite shop' as they are leaving it makes me smile :) There are two little girls (about the same age as your two Swirly) who come in every week with their mum and they love to tell me all about what they've been making since the previous week.

Oh and there's no point in the adult telling the child to look but not touch because it's just far too tempting when faced with pretty, shiny, glittering things everywhere :)

Really don't like it when somebody in my jewellery class loves what I have just made, studies it closely and then returns the following week with the copy they have made. Ggggrrrrr. If you can't be original then why bother?! Coo I feel like I've gone a little pink while having that little rant.:D

I hate professional sales people selling at Car Boot Fairs. I love browsing through some persons stuff that they have had for years. Gives it more character. Not the polished, arranged and priced huge stall thankyou. I just walk by.
