Is it just me or is ebay actually picking up at the moment? Since the they restored visibility, my numbers have gone right up and this has been the best month on ebay for me for 12 months! This should be my quietest time of the year so is it just a fluke?

I'm doing well too, the other weekend I took over £100 which, for me, is amazing :D

Funnily enough I actually bought on eBay last week for the first time in about 4 months or so for no particular reason that I can think of - maybe it was the unpredictable summer weather? Maybe the credit-crunch is scaring us away from the high street? Or maybe the story of the guy selling his life on eBay which was all over the news a fortnight ago reminded people to check out what's on offer?
Some mysteries are just no for solving!

I've backed off from ebay a little, only because I have been busy with my paintings through my website and other sources. I plan to relist soon, but if its picking up thats great. Perhaps Glass Kanvas its picking up because of your name is getting out alot, I know I looked your ebay shop up the other day. (looking for teachers presents but I have 10 to buy for I'm afraid)

Ebay does seem to be picking up a little bit. I've sold 1 bracelet out of 3 listed on ebay (they haven't paid for it yet though) but on my personal account I've managed to sell quite a bit of stuff - mostly car parts though which sell well anyway.

I've never tried selling any of my craft work through eBay and don't know whether to start or not. I personally think that I wouldn't get a decent price for my work due to the emphasis on 'getting something cheap': how does everyone else find eBay for selling generally?

i do agree people want things cheap there, i have to sell my chokers for about 2/3 pounds cheaper than elsewhere for them to sell!

You do have to slash your prices for ebay I think, but you have to think of it as advertising too. Ebay is far and away the best auction site in terms of google searches and if you use things like the about me page, the keywords, and end of auction emails properly it can drive lots of traffic your way.
It's not the right set up for everyone but you have to think of it like this-
Do you want to sell 10 items for £5 in one day using ebay or 1-2 items for £10 using another site?

Did you know from the 1st of July you can no longer link to your selling website on your about me page.

I just got told on etsy so had to go remove the link to my websites.

That's a real shame! Very cynical of them. Isn't it terrible that we need them more than they feel they need us as individuals?

I've not seen anything about that-there's no sign on the help section either. At the mo it says you can't link to directly generate sales- ie the link to something saying 'get this 10% cheaper here' or to another auction site. Could you post the link?... I want to look at the wording. There's always ways around these things.

It was on an etsy forum, ill try and find the link, it was someone saying it.

Under help it says

"It may not specifically promote off eBay sales"

Thats all i could find too. Ill go to etsy find the thing they were talking about.

"I had a link to a website on my ME page and someone reported it and I had to remove it."

Erg i cant find where i read it so ignore me :), the only thing i could find was this girl saying she was told to remove the link.

Does that mean it can't link to anything with a shopping cart or to sites set up to funnel away from ebay?

Likely to most affect sellers is the ban on About Me page links to a seller’s ecommerce website:

The new Links Policy prohibits linking from a seller’s listing or other content on eBay–including eBay Store pages, About Me pages, eBay Blogs, Reviews and Guides, and forums–to any site that offers a product or service for sale off eBay.

About Me pages have traditionally been the one place on eBay that sellers could legitimately link their website; eBay Blogs have - until now - been quite relaxed about the external links that were permitted.

- isnt that horrible :(

Oh!!!...This has come up before.
You can't put link in listings (except email and photo ones). You can put links to your website on the about me page but if you word it with anything along the lines of 'get it cheaper here' or 'buy one get one free on my website' then you'll get a warning or have it pulled.

I don't think ebay or changing anything new-they are getting seriously twitchy over counterfeit stuff and any possiblilty that their site might be a front to some kind of fraud so are attacking everyone with a little bt to much gusto.

I'd put your links back !

:) I dont see how im reading that wrong. It says i cannot link from my about me page to my sales website.

I didn't say you were reading it wrong.
I think the way it policy is policed is open to debate though. It seems you can report another seller for pretty much anything and ebay will not ask questions before punishing the person accused.
I'm going to wait to see how this comes into effect to see if it effects me or not.

Ebays definitely changing and not for the better.

I didnt mind if you were saying i was reading it wrong, i was just trying to understand how you cant read that as anything other than you simply cannot link from the about me page to a website which sells your products, i think its pretty clear :) and thought maybe i was reading it wrong.

It must be that we see it different ways :)

Their customer service is rubbish and there's loads of posts about sellers having listings removed for things like 'email me for other colours'...etc. Apparently they're enforcing their circumvention of fees policy a little too much. I have to say though, most of their recent changes lately for me have been positive ones.
