I was told recently off these forums that by law on my LunarraStar jewellery site i should have contact details like phone number and address.

As I'm sick and work from home its only a hobby for me, but im still registered as a sole trader to ake it all legal so i want to follow all the laws .. i wondered what do people do if they dont have a business address/phone number. I dont want to have to put our house address and house phone number. But if i have to ..then i have to.

What do you have on yours?

Im a sole trader too.
I dont like the idea of putting phone number or my address on a site but Im sure by law you need at least the address.

I have my address on my site, but I see that as a place for customers to post cheques.
I have also added a note saying something like, this is not a shop.

I have no business phone number so I have no number on the site.

Here' s a link http://www.berr.gov.uk/consumers/buying-selling/distance-selling/index.html

it's the distance selling laws, allowing for the return of items and the prevention of card fraud.

If you do not have a shop address then you may register for a P.O. Box and just give your P.O. Box address on your website.

I needs to be a physical address, PO boxes are not permitted under the laws sorry.

After reading that through it looks like only physical address is needed, not phone number.

Is this correct. Thanks so much for your advice :)

I never heard of a phone number being needed but I could be wrong....there's plenty of sites with a mobile number used so I doubt it's necessary legally.

Oh I am not sure about P.O. Box but I know that lots of businesses use it and also there is no definition of geographic address on the legal texts and nothing against P.O. Box, especially if it is provided by royal mail. In a case of complaint, if a customer asks royal mail to have the physical address of a P.O. Box, royal mail gives it easily. So I suppose when they say not P.O. Box is for those provided by private companies.

I used to have aPO Box address when I was self-employed and it wasn't a problem - but that was twelve years ago so maybe things have changed:confused:

I see you now know the address is mandatory. If you don't want to have your home phone number on there what about getting a tesco phone and using that number? You can set an answer machine up on it to take calls if you are offline etc. and it's cheap. For me, seeing such details gives me confidence in the person selling :)

Hi, just had a look and you have clearly shown the address so cant see a problem. BTW I have looked at your goodies at the same time and they are really gorgeous - why are you cutting all your prices??

Still we've been open 3 weeks with lots of promotion, can you believe even with lowered prices no one has signed up to our newsletter or placed an order.

Its pretty unbelievable because ive got an etsy, ebay and lots of promotion, my stuff sells alot other places. I know website take a long time but i thought in the first month i might have one sale lol.

Thank you for the advice everyone.

I love the chakra items too, i started making gemstone jewellery when i trained in Reiki, it fascinated me that different gemstones have different vibrations and meanings.

I should probably write something about wh i started making the jewellery on the site :)
