You know those pillows that you put into the microwave and they heat up and keep you warm? Well does anyone know what you put inside them?? I don't want to use wheat as it smells after a while but I was wondering if anyone knew what else I could put it? It's my dad's fathers day pressie so I need to know fairly soon!!
Thanks!

I use Asda's smart price long grain rice and it works well.
Microwave for 1.5 to 2 mins on full power (depending on your microwave) and it holds the heat for up to 2 hours.
Lovely on an aching back when you've spent too long at the computer! :)

I had once of those - the neck ones. I decided I didn't like it so emtied the contents out to make beanbags. It was filled with barley.

:D:DWord of warning though. I got one from Dunnes last year - great for the dreaded monthly pain - well I get pain quite bad and the bags were great when I first started using it it smelled of lavender and when it had been in the micro for 1 to 2 mins it felt damp. After a while the pillow didn't feel damp and I just thought that was how it was meant to be until I put it in the very last time and the thing went on fire in the micro - I don't know if I did something wrong or what but watch out for that one.

Cheers.

I am very fond of wheat pillows as they gave me some comfort when my husband died. It was something warm to cuddle up to. I have fibromyalgia and find them great for aches and pains. I agree that you need to be careful when heating them and they do smell a bit funny after a while. I don't know what else you could put in them apart from what has already been suggested.

I have this too and swear by my wheatie when I get an attack, doesn't get rid of the pain but does makes it more bareable. Lisa has scared me now though, I'll make sure I'm stood by the microwave the whole time it's heating in future although having the house on fire might make me forget about the pain for a while :o

Forgot to add, I have seen some on sale with hazelnuts inside to help massage aching feet.

I have made them before with wheat or pearl barley ( from the supermarket) in them. I have also heard of them catching fire when they get too dry. They recommend that you put a small glass of water in the microwave next to them them every 4th or 5th time it is heated.

i make them with both wheat and rice and both sell well, in the rice ones i add a good handful of lavender or you could try clove or cinnamon ( men seem to like these smells)and i do them in denim again for the men folk and the rice stays warmer for longer hope this helps

Thanks for that guys! I've decided to put the pressie on hold as I just don't have time to make it for Sunday so my dad is getting a box of chocs instead - the wheat pillow will be good for Christmas though!
