Felt help please!

I was at a craft fair two weeks ago and the woman at the stall next to me had made some amazing felt things, and ive been itching to have a go ever since! Ive tried looking on the internet for a guide, but I could only find one, and I didnt realy understand it! First of all, what is washed and carded wool and where can i get it from? Anyway, if anyone knows of any guides or tips can you please post them here? Id love to try and make some things out of felt for a change!

Most people use merino wool to start, it's the easiest to work with. Either look at ebay for sources of wool tops or try Wingham Wool Work, they seem to be the cheapest and most reliable. (I'm not affiliated to them by the way, I use wool straight from the sheep for my work!) They basically have come-and-try-our-stock days either at their place or you'll often find them on the road. Woolfest in Cumbria would be a good place to go, but that's this weekend coming.

There are lots and lots of books on how to felt these days but one of the best I've found recently is by Jorie Johnson, Felt Making and Wool Magic, available from almost anywhere really but Amazon is the obvious place to look about £9.25 including shipping from one of then non-Amazon suppliers.

Finally if you get really interested consider joining the International Feltmakers Association (I am a member, but not on the committee). They normally have a stand at the big shows doing demos - the Knit and Stitch show at the NEC for example. Lots of courses etc. If you were in West Wales I'd say pm me as I do 1:1 tuition and plan to start doing courses later on, but...

Hiya
