I have recently got my hands on some wood for my garden. Amoung it is a lovely shaped piece. I cant post pics yet but i have some of it in my album.
My question is what can i do with it to make it into a garden piece? I guess it needs preserved? I want to keep as much of the bark on it as possible.

I'd love to give you some advice, but without the slightest idea of type of wood, size, age, photo or anything....it's a little difficult !!

as chris said its hard to advice. firstly has it been dried out, properly? or, has it just been freshly cut? or, has been lying around outside open to the elements?

I said if you look in my profile you can see pictures of it. I have under 25 posts so cant put links up to pictures!
All i really want to know is how to preserve wood that will be out doors.

Its been lying out so exposed to elements. I can bring it in doors to dry out if needs be. Its not freshly cut. Its a knarled bit of old tree.

i would look at a water based non staining preservative. i guess all you want to do is preserve it against fungal and insect attack and protect it from the elements. look for a brand like cuprinol which you will find at the local diy. you don't want oil or varnishes.
edited: there is no need to dry it out. the preservative will repel water and water within will evaporate and equalize to the surrounding conditions, eventualy. its no different to the stuff you might put on a fence for example, you just want it colourless.

That is certianly a gorgeous piece of decorative wood for the garden :D
I have a large piece of wood which we actually bought from a market which is almost like a slice of tree around 3 foot long and 2 foot deep - it will eventually be preserved for the garden also :D
