View Full Version : Craftsforum Censorship

Hello everyone,

My previous post was a deleted by a Mod and I was curious about YOUR opinion of the post, the CraftsForum USERS.

I repeat from my previous post "I see a LOT of discussion here about ETSY and ebay" which seems to be no problem with the mods, but other than that it seems no other sites can be mentioned.

There are many complaints about ebay and Etsy on this forum, yet the Mods shoot down any messenger trying open your perspective to the existance of different sites.

It seems that they should change the name of this section from: Advice and tips on how to sell your crafts covering selling on the web to: EBAY and ETSY Discussion, OR they should be allowing people to share other relevant websites and let the CraftsForum users themselves discuss their opinions of the site.

I mean no offense toward the Mods by this post, i am sure they have been monitoring the boards with the best intentions, but shouldnt the users be allowed to see and try DIFFERENT sites that may help them sell their crafts within the SELL YOUR CRAFTS section?

Sorry for the rant but I feel like it needed to be said.

Best,
Johnny

hmmmm..

I read your post I though 50/50 your a spammer...

I didn't deleted it.. But a mod felt it was OTT for a 2nd post which I agree with..

I assume you have read the rules.. ??

We have 10's of people a day write about etsy and ebay and then slip in their own copy of the idea at the end of the post just like you had.. (I assume its was your site ?? )

Now as it was your second post in the "how to sell your crafts section" this is a RED flag as if you spend a little time on the forum your be able to see most people introduce themselves and get to know members.

I hope that helps..

If you find this a issue with this I'm sorry but we have to draw a line somewhere or this becomes a classified ads site and NOT a forum..

I see that this is your second post .... I'm guessing you made a post in this section before it was deleted about where people could sell their crafts.

We get an AWFUL lot of spammers on this forum trying to sell us things all the time, and the way they do that is to sign up and make their first post about their product etc.

Perhaps if you had introduced yourself to the forum through the "Introduce Yourself" section and got to know us all a bit first (and let us get to know you) your post wouldn't have been deleted.

I'm neither defending or condoning the actions of whichever moderator it was, but they do try to make this forum a pleasant, spam-free environment for us all ...

Hope this maybe explains the reason?

Hi,
I get a bit confused by the rules on mentioning websites too as I was told I couldn't have my url as my signature as I have non-craft events & info on there as well. But when people are asking if anyone knows about craft fairs in a particular area I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention if there's any listed on my site. I do use and post on the forum for other stuff (mainly card making) and I'm not a spammer.

It was probably me that deleted your post, but as 0103media said, we get so many spam posts on here in a day - and the reason you have so much forum room to write your genuine posts is because we delete them! - that I honestly don't remember deleting it. What I will say though is that as a forum we have very few rules, and very few moderators, but the rules we do have are there for a reason, and as such are strictly enforced. If new members took 5 minutes to read the rules it would make life so much easier for all of us. Moderators do this job because we believe in the forum - a lot of us are running small businesses and can do without having to censor posts that would not have existed had the poster read the rules - we have other lives as well! :)
As a footnote, I will admit that sometimes we get it wrong....................................but not often. :)

As another footnote, I just read the deleted posts - it was me, and I can't for the life of me remember why I didn't ban you at the time..............must have been a slow day. Stop moaning - your posts were blatant self promotion contrary to forum rules, get over it and join in or find some other forum to advertise on. :)

There are a heck of a lot of spammers about and, I agree with JBJB, if you'd introduced yourself and let us find out a little bit about you (and you can find out about us too) there would be less chance for confusion, with regard to spamming. It's not fair to say that we only talk about Etsy and eBay, maybe they appear in lots of threads because a high proportion of members on the forum actually use them, their high visibility is therefore logical, not contrived. It does only take a short while to read the rules and then make an informed decision about joining the forum, or, not. We like new people, they add diversity and new view points etc. and it really is friendly, helpful and informative place to be. At the end of the day, I'm really glad the forum rules are in place and that we have such efficient moderators, just stick around I'm sure you'll realise that we're not ogres :D

I have to say that personally I joined the forum to exchange news and views, triumphs and failures, with other crafters. I have read a lot of interesting threads which I have felt were helpful to me and I hope that I have been able to offer others some of my own wisdom (or otherwise!). It is in everybody's interests for us to share information with each other, but please give us time to get to know you before you start self-promoting.

Thank you Janet and Poppy for the positive responses but I refuse to stay in a community with a moderator as blatantly rude as BeadSage.

My honest intention of posting the original thread was to discuss a service for selling crafts that I thought would be helpful to the craftsfourm community in the How to sell my crafts section. I in no way promoted the service and I did NOT use a weblink as stated in your Rules section but I still got treated like trash… and surprisingly not by the Users (who were openly welcoming), but by a forum moderator on an OBVIOUS power trip. I stated in my thread above that I meant no offense to the moderators by my censorship inquiry and though the other members were able to give honest and respectful responses, BeadSage’s response was deliberately offensive.

Would you ever treat one of the customers of YOUR small business in the manner that you treated me in your thread above BeadSage?

Although you all do not know me very well, I have taken time to read your posts and I have seen the complaints about online selling fees which is what led me to post here in the first place. If anyone would like the link to the free service I originally enquired about send me a message and I will get it to you.

If not, farewell forever! :nopity:

Regards,
Johnny

Absolutely - funny how it is only the ones who are "trying it on" who find the moderators harsh!! Well done.
