I have my biz email set up as eg. brilliant@hotmail.com (brilliant@hotmail.com), only because I worry using sales@brilliant.com (sales@brilliant.com) might go down and i would lose everything.
Question is, does using a hotmail account put people off using a company? I know using the domain email would be more professional and look better but would the other really deter people in teh first place.

To be truthful (and I may get shot down in flames here) I am a bit discouraged by hotmail e-mail addresses and prefer the domain name purely for the reason that anyone anywhere can set up a hotmail address but to set up and use a domain address you have to actually hold that domain (does that make sense I am useless at explaining things).
Cheers.

If I see a hotmail address I'm half way to the ban button. :)

Hotmail make you think china..
Makes you think fake..
If you use your domain name it means people can find out more info about you as you need to legally register your domain vs hotmail..
Think of it the other way around.. if someone want to buy something from you would you trust them with a hotmail address ?

I have to agree totally about a hotmail name.
My business email is forwarded to another account (yahoo) so i always have a back up.
Could you do that and use the domain one as your main one?

I agree as well, when I see a company using a hotmail address it makes me think twice, for me it doesn't look like a professional shop.

thanks for these.
Em you say yours is forwarded to your yahoo. Do you get 2 copies of everything then, one in your domain email and one in yahoo. Or just one?

hi there
yes hotmail does put people off thats why i chose live instead so the email comes out as:- thecraftycow@live.com which sounds much better than hotmail but is just the same to use just a better name, just have a google at free email and see what you come up with
