Just a few words to inspire people when they hit a spot of crafter's block... feel free to add more! (Guess who just found their Uni dissertation!)
"... that which we throw away, we fail to value." Victor Papanek.
"... the result of firstly a thought, secondly a gesture, and finally a form." Ross Lovegrove.
"Students will often complain of being confused, but this is a negative was of seeing it. We are led to consider certainty better than doubt, but I don't think creativity is inspired by certainty. It is curiousity, a not-knowing, and openness to possibilities, that are prerequisites. This state of searching, often call confusion, is not a wrong state to be in, it is essential." Caroline Broadhead.
"One cannot build life from refrigerators, politics, credit statements, and crossword puzzles. That is impossible. Nor can one exist for any length of time without poetry, without colour, without love." Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
"... a message that the creator begins and that the owner must complete." Ivy Ross.
"To be modern is to find ourselves in an environment that provides us with adventure, power, joy, growth, transformation of ourselves and the world and, at the same time, that threatens to destroy everything we have, everything we know." Marshall Berman.
"Touch is the most intimate of the senses, the most reciprocal; if you touch, you are at the same time touched. The whole emotional range can be experienced through touch from love to disgust." Pamela Johnson.
"In such a world of recovered sensuality, the materiality of objects made for handling gives them an edge over those made merely for looking at, and in this sense the value of the crafts can be seen..." Alan Powers.
"Why be a song when you can be a symphony?" Tim Booth, 1996.
