ok, so I am on a hen night next weekend. We're off too bristol.

My friend is getting married and her horrid maid of honour has turned the weekend into a disaster!:mf:

SHe is trying to make us wear tacky t-shirts with nicknames on (I dont even have a nickname!!!) and go to karaoke. I said karaoke is not my thing but I would go along with it if that is what everyone wanted to do (i'll just have a few drinks!!) but as for the t-shirt..I flately refused!!

now maybe i'm being harsh, but there are a few of us that have said no to the t-shirts and I dont particularly feel any great desire to be parading arounf Bristol city centre addorned with tack hen weekend t-shirts!

Why is that some people really go all out chavvy for hen nights, where has the sophistication gone? I think you cana go to some nice places, have some good food, cocktails and the like and look classy drunk(!!!) as opposed to chavvy drunk!!

My idea of a hen weekend would be really relaxing, a spa hotel, being pampered, some wine, cocktails, dinner, just having a really good chat and a laugh with my favourite girls!! no tackiness involved, no learner plates, no 'quick lads its my last night of freedom'!!, no feather boas and no nick named t-shirts!!

maybe its just me...what do people think....any hen night horror stories to share :D

Mine was pants.

I did not get drunk and my 'best mate' had a row with her boyfriend and we were in bed for midnight - she was a bit worse for wear.

Went for a curry which was good but the rest of it was rubbish..........

My sis is organising mine, so far the ideas are pole dancing lessons followed by cocktails, dinner and clubbing in central London. When she first said pole dancing I freaked out, but now I'm coming round to the idea, it'll be a bit of a laugh. (and no L-plates or strippers in sight!)

Its always difficult tho when you feel forced to do something you don't want to. A close friend of mine organised a weekend on two barges on a canal for hers - I hated it! 24 drunk girls on a murky canal - we nearly wrecked one of the boats as it got tangled in weeds and nearly capsized! I left after one night as I disliked it so much. Felt bad for my friend tho.

I guess it depends on how close a friend she is - would you be willing to wear a t-shirt for her? Perhaps you could wear a cute cardi over it to cover it up?

i have only been on small group hen nights that didnt involve dressing up i dont think id fancy wearing a nickname t-shirt but that might just be my age but watching all the programs about booze briton and seeing the hen partys in pvc nurses outfits looks fun if your 20 size 10 and single other than that i think a spa weekend with friends chatting and alchohol sounds more like my cup of tea

each to their own I suppose. What does your friend want to do? would she be horrified at how tacky this is? If not, remember it is her night, if that is how she wants to spend it, good luck to her!

Mine was great - My Sil made the tacky tees (!!), we did it in the day and went to a french creperie (nr Lichfield) to have pancakes. :p
Just a few female friends and family came, then we spent the rest of the day sitting in my Mums garden getting slowly tipsy and playing swing ball :D

I avoided having one :D

A friend of mine recently went to one where it was based around a cookery lesson at a country house type place, after which they sat down & ate what they'd cooked (with copious amounts of wine!). Sounded like a lot of fun !

Mine was OK we went to Newcastle which was great but, everyone decided to dress me up with L plates, a tiara, a veil, ball & chain - you name it I had to wear it. Then my friend decided she would go off in a strop becasue I was getting all the attention!!!. Not a good night all in all. Glad it was all those years ago (11) - I would hate to do it now!.

My niece is getting married next year and she works for a large hotel chain so there has been talk of organising a pamper weekend for us all which I am really looking forward to. As with all hen nights it shoudl be up to whatever the bride to be wants to do!.

My cousin organised us all a pamper weekend in a spar in Bristol. It was lots of fun and very relaxing! I think that is the way to go.
I shared my hen night with my best friend as we got married within 2 weeks of each other. We went to an Italian restaurant where they made us stand on chairs and sang 'Happy Birthday' (I guess they didn't have a hen night song).
All rather strange really - but no 'L' plates thankfully!

Hen nights seem to be one of those ocassions that have gradually got blown up out of all proportion. Way too much importance is put on them and the expectations of it being one of the best nights out usually mean they're a disappointment. How old and boring do I sound?! hehe

That was actually my dad's opinion of New Years Eve but I think it applies here too. They have gone from a night out with a few close mates to weekends and even weeks away planned months in advance with almost as must perparation as the actual wedding. Having said that a cheapy holiday abroad would be more favourable than a chavvy pub crawl!!

In the olden days when I got married (1990) I was greedy and I had 2 hen nights. One was at a local pub with the girlfriends of all my bloke's mates. I was a bit naive then and didn't drink very much. They got me very drunk but no nasty costumes or accessories were in evidence.

The second was with my sis and my 2 best mates from school and was my 'proper' hen night. We went to a club in Stafford and I confess I had a hat that mum and sis had made with veil and wedding cakes decorations all over it. No matching t-shirts tho' and I was allowed to remove my hat.

I agree with bynicki, I think it should be what the bride wants to do. How does she feel about the t-shirts?

Hiya! I've only been to one and it was in a comedy club followed by dancing in a club which played 60's music, so it was good fun - I went with my mum as it was a family friend so it was really fun! But, I wouldn't enjoy the t-shirt thing at all - maybe you could do something else creative to show that you're part of the group - like a corsage in similar colours, for example?

Sometimes when you're not looking forward to something, it's better than you expect.
