I'm try to get people to realise that a piece of dichroic/lampwork jewellery sold on ebay for 99p from...say China, is usually neither of this things.
Anyway-I've written a guide on ebay and i'm wondering if people could have look and say if it was helpful or not...I'm trying to get as high up the guides as possible-I figure the more people are informed about fakes, the better! Anyway-here's the link

Thanks!

i voted too i found it very useful to know the difference as im thinking of starting making some jewelry for myself and family and friends if you buy the fake you might as well buy cheap jewelry from the high street i think

Voted on! Thank you for that information as I know nothing about glass. It seems to me that if you pay 99p for anything these days it's sure not to be very high quality but unfortunately on Ebay and other places people just want a bargain and then moan when they get what they paid for!

Thanks for your help guys! It might not do much but it's appearing on google searches now so hopefully people will learn something...and seller will stop selling those leaf pendants you see on market stalls as dichroic glass!

I've marked it as useful too - anything which raises awareness of the difference between quality handcrafted and cheap mass produced can only be a good thing.

I've voted too. Its important to get this message across, I read something simular that was written about acrylic painting as it came up on google. I hope it helps towards people buying something beautiful and genuine rather than a rip of piece of tat.

Have just voted in the positive too,
BUT also noticed the RH column has your details, a couple of your items for sale, then directly below 5 items from other eBay sellers. They are all variations on:
Lampworked murano dichroic artistic rings starting at 99p from China !!!
It's an uphill struggle that's for sure.

That's exactly why I'm doing it-the markets flooded with fakes! I'm not against the imported pieces as such. I just don't like the fact people think they're buying expensive items for buttons-the quality is equivalent to the price which relects badly on us all!

I voted useful too.... and here's my tuppence worth
I bought some pendants from a reputable seller (not ebay, but an online beadshop I used quite often - note the past tense)
Yes, these were 99p, but were so pretty!
They were not advertised as being murano or dichroic and I knew I was not buying quality, but they were so pretty!
I sold one to a colleague and one day on the approximately 8th wear, the pendant fell apart, sheared cleanly. I used my powers of science to conclude that the heat of her chest had caused expansion in one of the bubbles in the pendant
Now if that hadn't been a colleague and a good friend, i could have been in a lot of trouble!
I bought a GK pendant for her as a replacement which is much better quality and prettier. I will be throwing out my stock of pretty 99p pendants and replacing them all with GK ones.
If you're paying 99p for them you can't complain, but I have seen the same ones for sale on Camden Market for a fiver.

I voted too.
Not much more I can add but like others have said, anything to spread the word about cheap rubbish.
I wish people would not be tempted by the cheap rubbish but I suppose these cheap importers are just meeting the demand. I do hope people come to their senses, save up if need be and buy something nice!

Hi,
Just tried to vote but realised I can't remember my ebay sign on! When I do I will!
It's a great shame that so many people have viewed the article but not voted!
Hope it picks up for you.
Regards.

Yer...but at least they're viewing! They might not be interested or not have an account etc but it still spreads a bit of knowledge so i'm happy.
Thanks everyone, for helping me out!

I voted too. I know nothing about glass, so this was really helpful. It gave me some information to look out for when i do buy and hightened my awareness.

I am not a glass craftsperson but I understand your frustration. I see "swarovski pearl and crystal" necklaces for sale for 99p and think the same thing.
Anyway, I visited ebay and voted that YES it was useful.
Good luck with it.
