varnish

Hello, I've just joined today and already I have a question! I am starting on some collages and I wondered if anyone could suggest a good varnish or laquer to use over the top to give it a nice finish that wont ruin or discolour the paper? I havent done collage for years so I'm not sure what the best stuff to use would be. Any suggestions would be really welcome,
