View Full Version : Etsy Pricing?!

Hi there,
I wouldn't mind a bit of advice/constructive critisism if anyone has a spare second or two. I opened my Etsy shop last month and athough I've had a few sale, they have been mainly of the felt brooches I make. Am I pricing things like my ipod cases too high?!
I have been thinking of lowering the prices slightly on certain things. I do get plenty of views of my items other than my brooches, just no sales.....hmmm....!

I wonder about bringing them down to about $15 dollars then they would be £7.50 which might seem a reasonable price, but I don't know how much it costs you to make them so, its really your choice...

Lovely shop!
Do you relist them as well? Items can get buried very quickley on Etsy as people are listing and renewing items all the time, so within a day or two your item could be right down on page 20 of the listings!
Perhaps you could try just dropping the price a little as smile suggested, to see if that draws people in, but you don't want to price yourself too low as you have some lovely stuff.
Once you've built up a few customers you could then raise your prices again.

Hi Claire,
Ok - first off I dont know anything about 'etsy', but my comments are fairly general, so should be ok!
Do you have to list the price in dollars?
Whenever I see dollars, I tend to surf away, as i think it means paying to have it shipped from the USA (not Birmingham).
Of course, if the majority of your sales come from overseas (esp USA) then dont change it!
I love your postage costs by the way - easy and simple - and low, nice one.
On other point - and this is the sort of thing thats debated for ever - id list the prices at $5.99 instead of $6.00
I know people will say this does not work - but it does. Sales agencies spend big money year on year to see if this old addage still hold true in todays markets - and results resoundingly prove it does!
Give it a try and see if it makes any difference.
In terms of price - I thought your stuff was really good and affordable - it wouldnt be an issue for me, but only you know what it all costs to make etc etc.
Certainly try not to fall into the trap of lowering stuff so much that its just not worth the effort anymore!
Hope things pick up for you.
All the best
Steve

Hi again Claire,
Ok, between my first post and this ive read more about etsy - and being a typical male, in the space of 5 minutes I now know everything there is to know about marketting on etsy :)
What it does seem to be is slow to take off (and i know youve read that yourself) so maybe its too early days to be worrying about your listings.
Out of interest, have you tried ebay with your stuff, and how did you get on?
All the best

I like you already :D
Claire I think your prices are spot on and I personally wouldn't lower them. Do your items sell well in other places like craft fairs? If they sell well elsewhere at that price then you know they are a decent price so don't adjust them. It really does help to promote on Etsy - forums etc but it can be time consuming and it also helps to try and list/relist an item each day. Tricky I know but it does help.

i think your shop looks good and your prices are hitting the etsy market.
all i can suggest is have a good look at what and how your competitors are doing and gauge things from there.
i think for me etsy is highly competitive and moves at phenomenal speed. you will have to work very hard if you want to be noticed. i liken it to a noisy market place full of talented market traders!
if you can list a new item regularly, at least several times daily, you stand a good chance of breaking through.
i also think the weak dollar is making it difficult for europeans to trade there unless they are willing to cut costs.
in some ways if your products can absorb the cost of ebays prices then it may be a better market.

Thanks for all the hints guys! I think I will try another month at keeping my prices the same and maybe afterwards try the old lowering by 1 or 5c to make things 'appear' better priced if that doesn't work (people are strange aren't they?!).
I have been trying to list something every other day, but my box of things on etsy is getting bigger, LOL! I think I will try relisting things as it's something very simple and I hadn't thought of it and it may get people looking at things I put on when I first opened the shop.
Thanks again for taking the time to have a look. Every helpful hint is greatly appreciated!

LOL! I tried renewing some of my lisitings this morning and by the time I'd got back from the shops and logged back on I'd sold one of my ipod cases!
I had wondered how people managed to list so many things so quicky and after swirly's relist suggestion I had a good look and realised its a simple case of choose which ones and click. I think I have a lot to learn about Etsy! :)

Excellent! That's good news. :D
You should pop in and say hello in the UK Team thread (in the Teams section) on the forum. I think people would like your stuff. :)
