I wondered if it would be useful to have a spot where people can post anything they come across regarding the latest fashion trends e.g. what colours, designs etc are in/out.
Although I'm a total ignoramus, when it come to these matters, my niece is really on the ball, so, I can call upon her expertise and she'd be as chuffed as little meat balls to think her fashion tips were reaching a wider audience than just her dear old aunt!

I just thought that everyone could benefit from this information. What do yo think?

According to Gok last night, ruffs & frills are in. So it's down to Tesco's then. :)

Well, they worked for Bill the Bard (aka Shakespeare) so, I'm sure you'll look very dashing!! :D

Seriously though, even folks like me (I make soaps and bath bombs) can find that useful as I could 'tart up' my stuff with frills etc.

I'm not much of a fashion girly myself, my list would look a bit like this:

Hot = flat boots
Not = high heels

Hot = curly hair straight from the shower
Not - poncing about with straighteners

:D:sm::);):playball:

Um, maybe it could be called, um, not sure really...something to do with trends, I hadn't thought of a title, or, where it could go (sorry!) and I quite agree, if not many people want/need it then it wouldn't be viable. I suppose, the response to this thread will give an indication of its popularity. If it's a 'no goer' no worries, at least I tried!

Nautical seems to be in again this season :confused:

Also still alot of brights 80's feel.

Good idea though :D

Be nice to have to include fashion, interiors as well as craft trends as they are all intertwined (spelling)

Absolutely, the wider the spectrum the better, anything to help us crafter to get ahead of the game :D

I was looking round B&Q the other day looking for wallpaper and it looks like metallics, black, white, cream, duck egg blue, teal and dark red are popular at the moment.

I think it would be great ('specially for us older members). How about "fashion watch", or "in vogue". I'm sure somebody will come up with a great idea for it.

I also think this is a really great idea.

I'd just call it current trends and maybe put it in the craft news section?

I think the ruffles and frills depict a general influence from the Elizabethan era as rich embroidered fabrics and lace seeem to be in vogue.

I've seen a lot of "desert/ Mexican" themed fashion displays in shops with cactus and mexican folk art, colours like teracotta, sand and sage green.

In home decor it seems to be going back to big bold patterns and the trend for minimalism/ neutral palletes and cream and beige are finished (yey)

What a fantastic response and some great ideas too! It would be so nice, if this does get off the ground, to have the ability to use it like a reference section, to dip in and out of for ideas and inspiration. There must be such diversity across the forum members that it would allow us to have our fingers on lots of different pulses (so to speak!) e.g. what's 'in' with teenagers through to the more senior members of society, as well as all the many groups/subcultures.

I have a fashion conscious 13 year old daughter, she is a 'Scene Kid', this seems to be what she would call a random look. She makes her own jewellery out of house keys, empty cassettes, in fact anything wearable. She likes tatt too such as plastic charms and cameos. Wearing a scarf can be part of the look and a big thick belt with studs worn low on the hip. Also brightly coloured tights, very short rara skirts in floral material and pumps. She also wears pearls.

For any 'fashion conscious' teenager the thing is to stand out, be different, 'individual' if you will. Anything they see that they know nobody else will have, they like (I'm speaking from experience!) - mixes of textures and styles e.g. a cameo with a really chunky chain. Gold is also very fashionable at the moment. As is anything classed as 'Kawaii' cute. It's all about different groups. The main ones

Indie/Rock - normally these are the girls who like 'vintage' stuff (like me!) tea dresses and all. (: Think Kate Nash. Pretty florals, polka dots

Emo/Scene and the like - They're kind of like rock/new punk/goth/scene all put together. Spotty bows, Hello Kitty, bright plastic charms, lots and lots of bracelets, plastic jewellery, pins and badges are also popular. Bright colours, mixed with monotones. (Print shirts with randomish pictures - actual printed bows, piano keys (also popular with necklaces) oh, and cartoon dinosaurs, ring doughnuts, you name it! - cute ones (: (don't ask) those big aviator sunglasses too. all make good prints.

Stuff popular with everyone

- 'Old-School' style fashions. Converse trainers and such.
- Pendant style necklaces - (nothing too fancy!)
- Hoodies

Okay, I'm done. (:

Be great to have a "what's hot" thread
I spend alot of time of the etsy recently sold bit,checking which jewellery has sold ,gives me an idea of the more current trends as I tend to be a bit of a stick in the mud when it comes to fashions,lol,I don't care if my cowboy boots arnt hip,i love them !!

It gets my vote :)

Firstly, cowboy boots are cool, they will never go out of fashion, what would cowboys wear if they did?

I love the idea of this thread, I've got no idea what goes with what and I am eclectic in my taste if nothing else.

I also have a complete inability to follow fashion. I always think it would be a good idea to be fashionable but then cannot justify spending loads of money on something that's going to be really uncool next season. I would rather spend loads of money on something that's always been uncool :o

Thought this a great topic....read all the posts then found most was supposed to be out of date!!!...googled as l'm into beads...."whats hot and whats not in beads".....guess what came out top of the google list peeps hehehehe.......

This thread!...tell ya something girls n boys?

Still think this is a great thread but today so many trends and almost every colour is fashionable (dont they say what suits you is the best trend) so very hard to say 'what's hot' maybe?

If l'm trying to find some help on 'hot stuff' l look at ppl who are already successful and see what they are doing....success l think is one of the best trends to follow...especially if you want to make some cash!

They've hedged their bets there somewhat - they seemed to have covered just about every colour!!:D

I think this thread is a great idea, it would be really useful for me as i make clothes, jewellery and bags, I try not to follow the current trends as i think they are all pretty boring and repetitve but i do enjoy putting a little bit of the current trends into my things because then its wearable and can fit into someones outfit if theyre very fashion conscious!!

I think if it does happen though then it will have to be very clearly updated every season.

I guess if we started it properly now we'd put our input in for Autumn/Winter 08-09, which is pretty much the same as every year!!!

I found the post about the 'scene kids, emos and indie kids' rather funny too, as a 'teenager' myself its always interesting to see how the 'older generation' (dont want to get in trouble!! hehe) look in on all these fashion 'statements'!!!

But yeh i think its a good idea and will hopefully bring inspiration to everyone!!!

Thought id include things ive picked up on for next season (ive had to research because im putting a collection down a catwalk in Oxford city center and i dont want my collection to look too out if date compared to gap and river islands collections :-/)

-Tatan/Plaid - Reds, purples, dark colours.
-Frills, lacey floaty materials
-Fake fur!
-'Gothic couture'
-Vintage Glamour

Thats what i dlont get about trend predictions, theyre so contradictory!!
Oh well, i probably wont end up following any of that!!!!
