I have often wondered if Dot Cottons quotes from the Bible are correct..I mean who checks them when she says where they are to be found??..Er Ok, I did.
Last night she was talking to someone and at the end of the Bible quote said something like 'and the most important of these is love.Corintians chapter and verse 13'.
So, I went and had a look.Shes a fibber. The structure of the quote was more or less correct but instead of love the word was charity!!!
What has the world come to when you cant even trust Dot Cotton!

Sorry folks, but in some modern versions the word charity has been changed to love, hence the quote "The greatest of these is love" which is often used as a version for wedding services. My god daughter had an even more modern one which was lovely - which I will find sometime - which she asked me to read at her wedding.

In the original hebrew and ancient greek texts, there were over 40 words used for love. translating them to latin and then to english some of the initial meaning were lost. Recent transcripts have reinstated the true words, but in english we use the word love as a cover for many things.
I love those sweets (desire)
I love you my darling (passionate love)
I love you (friendly love)
I'd love to care for you (charitable love)
etc.

Sadly I do have way too much time on my hands but I always thought Dot could be trusted with reagrds to her religious quotes, she is a highly religious lady after all.
But the change of words has been explained above.
