Can all those nice bods that work in felt pleeeeeease give me some pointers of where and what?

My brooches (like the one I gave incy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/23202798@N04/2300265026/)) are worked on felt which I had in my stash from ages back. It's lovely and thin and dense, not like the squares of "fatter" and more "airy" stuff you seem to get in craft shops. Sorry but that's the only way I can really describe the stuff.

What's the difference? What do I need to /ask look for? Where's the best place to buy it?

Thank you you lovely people.:D

I think you want to make sure its proper wool felt and not the mixed fibre felt you can buy in craft shops. The other source you might try is the teddy bear suppliers, the felt they use for pads etc the name escapes me right now! (senior moments!!)

the wool from craft shops is generally 100% acrylic.

this supplier does a mix of wool and acrylic felt which is nice to work with,

or this is 100% wool, lovely felt.

Thanks so much guys. Will follow these up.

All roads seem to lead to 'Paper and String' at the moment. I've had comments on my blog from them, messages from other people mentioning them and I found them the other night on ebay. Maybe it's an omen!!

Try this thread - http://www.craftsforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4097&highlight=felt

I have some saved, but i'm at my Mums so will have to PM you later. Paper & String is great. ;)

But I mostly buy from here - http://www.myriadonline.co.uk/natural-wool-felt.php - gorgeous colours and lovely and thick.

Oooh - the Myriad stuff looks gorgeous. The photos at the bottom are really clear so you can see how nice it is. The only problem is I don't actually want it too thick for my badges else it 'pings' out at the edges.
:0(
Think I'll just have to contact a selection of them and buy one piece or ask if they can offer a free sample to try. Why do I have to be awkward? :0)

I buy lots from Myriad too. The wool felt is 1mm or thinner. It's very dense though, but still soft. I know what you mean about the airy stuff, it's awful.

how do the colours compare for the myriad felt?, are the colour swatches on their web site pretty accurate?

Lucykate - I know what you mean about the colour samples, that put me off a bit when I first ordered. But they are very accurate (or at least the colours I've brought have been.)

Ethel -Myriad would be a bit thick for your button maker. Try 'Paper & String', they are a little thinner and less dense.

I think my felt will be too thick. It's about 2mm, but is 100% wool felt and is completely handmade.

Sorry I can't be of more help
